71 250C MB - speaker grille
Hi All,
I'm looking for a replacement front speaker grille (above the dash) for my 71 250C MB. The one I have is warped from years of exposure to the sun and I would like to get this replaced. Any leads where I can get this part? I posted this in another thread, hope I'm not overposting.. I've attached an image of the dash of a similar model (not my car) for visual. I didn't have a pic handy in my case, but the grille you see in the pic is very nice compared to my grille which is severely warped and damaged. My car's interior dash is black like the pic posted. Thanks, RT Last edited by 71MB250C; 05-29-2012 at 09:19 PM. Reason: add pic |

Same dash as the 4 door I would think. You should check.
The best possibility to get a good used one may be from a junk car in the far north. Or a car that was a garage queen all its life. Over time and exposure they really go to hell I agree. Do a little research may be the same part 69-74? |

Where are you located?
You can check the inventory of Pick-n-Pull on-line and see if they have a 114/115 car in their yard and where it is. That would likely be the fastest way of getting one. |

I covered the speaker grille in my 250C with black speaker cloth. It was the best option I could find.

If the 250C speaker grille is different from the sedans let me know. I know someone who might part his car out. He as an Army buddy of mine who brought back a new 250C from Germany in 1971 and his since parked it to rot into the ground.

Thanks Larry & everyone else who have replied. This car was also shipped back to the states in 71 by a military guy who had it built to US specs in the Stuttgart plant. I've added a pic to my post. Can you ask your friend if he has the grille in black? Also, I need the rubber strips that go inside the trim above the roof. (roof rack trim). I'm located in Austin, TX.
Much obliged. Last edited by 71MB250C; 05-29-2012 at 09:21 PM. |

The dashboards speaker openings changed over the years.
Early ones have smaller openings, the larger opening is the later style. Surface finish changed in 73, from leather grain to pebble grain. I've never seen a "perfect" late grille cover.... For a '71, I'd look for an early dash with the smaller opening in leathergrain. Jim

Well, since you're in Austin, it might be the same car. Did you get it in New Braunfels?

Not sure how the grille is secured. It measures 5.25 inches from front to back and 11.75 inches side to side. Here's a pic of the grille from my car
Larry: my car was not bought in New Braunfels. It comes from Washington DC (owner was 4 star general James Polk, former Nato Commander of Europe during 60's, retired in 70) |
