They are just voters who happen to be religious...

I thought the seperation between Church and state was in regard to the State not dictating a religion, which we all know is bull anyway. I'm fairly certain a "few hundred pastors" won't be able to sway an election anyways...

Would you feel the same way if a few hundred conservative pastors met with Mitt to work on a strategy to get Mitt elected?

Simply asking if an opinion on "church and state" is in any way related to who benefits politically. Arguments should be about principles; not who benefits.

Kind of like Shrub's weekly call with Ted Haggard when he was president of the National Association of Evangelicals prior to his meth/man-****ing episodes.

I saw the interview the original post is about. I don't recall any such thing being discussed.
I do remember them talking about how one thing they would not do is put out a 'voters guide' like some churches do since those have been found to be a clear violation of IRS regs. I really don't remember anything else involving churches being discussed, but I was making some coffee at the time. I remember when Pat Robinson was caught by the IRS and was told to stop passing out his Voters Guide to any church that would take them. I was watching the 700 Club when ol' Pat was laughing about how the Guide violated the IRS regs and how he was amazed he had 'gotten away with it for years'. Karl Rove said that without the group he called 'the religious nuts' the Republicans could never win anything. Karl was pretty depressed when Pat got his hand slapped by the IRS. And yeah, I watch a lot of TV. |

So as MS Fowler indicated, no problem as long as they aren't Con's.
What, no white pastors vote for Obama? Last edited by Dudesky; 05-29-2012 at 11:55 PM. |

I can't speak for other churches, but in mine, we do not mix any political talk in a worship service. It would be deemed to be inappropriate. We would never invite any political candidate to address the congregation during a worship service, either--that too, would be deemed inappropriate. We do pray for our leaders as directed by the Scriptures, regardless of the political party or views of those leaders.
