That probably still won't help owners of late-model MB. Thanks to MB's cheapness with the cats, and people removing/gutting them, more and more of the 170/171/202/203/208/210/220 chassis have a special designation (I think it's gross polluter, lumped in with the true gross polluters). I now am required to go to one of the special certification stations on an annual basis, and since those stations charge more than the generic ones I end up paying about three times as much as when I went every two years.
Since it's based on the model, and not your particular car, the fact that you still blow virtual zeros across the board doesn't matter. No way to get your car out of the gross polluter group. I'm sure glad I spent $1,200 for genuine factory cats...OTOH, at least I pass the visual inspections, too.
