Does it bother anyone else here....

Does it bother anyone else on this board to see motorcycle riders wear
a german style helmet ?

- I see a variety of riders wear them - black guys , white guys , 30 years old and older ? I know its a free country but it just strikes me the wrong way .

Do they have any clue as to what it represents?

I live close to a jewish community and cant help but think how it may represent
such a horrible time and place...

Interesting history behind bikers wearing German regalia -- many of the original 1940s bikers were WW II vets, and they wore the war trophies that they had brought back. If anything, it started as an anti-German, proud-to-be-and-American-who-defeated-Germany thing.

I can see where that would be troublesome to some people. Growing up in the 60's if you drove a German Car it would get you some dirty looks (including VW Bugs). It takes time to heal.

That's a topic for a whole other thread right there. Like the guy who ran over my Kawasaki EX250 in a parking lot because he "didn't see it".

It's America; they can wear what they want. No, it doesn't bother me. Should it bother me when I see a yamaka?

Is that like a Yamaha made for the Yarmulke-wearing set? i.e. drives itself on the Shabbat...

I don't really see the correlation with the yamaka, but what ever this is America...

Considering that my family and many of my friends families have suffered by "humans" wearing that helmet it does bother me.

Actually, it was the Booze Fighters, not the Hell's Angels.

Some say they were a drinking gang with a motorcycle problem!

Most biker gangs sprang up after the war so no not really. I think they look pretty cool.

Oh and the German pattern helmet of that period started in WW1 or the 20's I forget.
