"Take your stinking paws off me, you damned dirty ape."

While it is certainly unfortunate for this indivudual what has happened to him, I always find it deliciously ironic when animal lovers are victimized by the objects of their affection!

News Distribution Network - Shared Video

This instance is high up there on the menu but I'm not sure it is as tasty as other happenings of this sort such as the guy who was eaten by his Grizzly Bear buddies, the woman who was drowned by the Sea World orca, the lady whose face was ripped off by her live-in chimp "companion", or the numerous old ladies that have been devoured by their pack of adopted stray cats!

But this instance is pretty high up there! It is very interesting how it appears that the chimps where in effect almost stalking this guy. They didn't escape their enclosure and then find and attack someone, they sat there along the fence where he regularly appeared and wait until they could grab his leg when he ventured within their reach. They appear to have understood that they could drag him under the fence and proceded to do exactly that! Then he was dragged deep into the chimp enclosure for what specific purpose is unknown, but it is clear if it was their only purpose they could have killed him instantly but they decided not to. Maybe they where taking him back to finish him off, maybe they wanted to dine-in on a fresh "white meat tartar", maybe they thought he was cute and would have made an attractive domestic partner for some chimp?

Maybe is was nothing more than another previously underserved and victimized population lashing out at a an innocent someone who symbolised those who've maltreated and victimised them in the their past?

Any way I just can't help to appreciate the irony that such a reality check affords. Human love of animals, it is a many splendored thing!

There are people who have to push the red button even if there's a sign that says not to.

Relishing in the misfortune of others who did nothing more than be in the wrong place at the wrong time...............the definition of a DB.

Your description would better apply to someone hit by an asteroid or lightning! These animal "lovers" foolishly placed themselves in close proximity to animals in the mistaken belief that animals view people as fellow travelers rather than an easy meal!

From what I saw on a news feed from a South African station, the gent knowingly climbed into what had been marked as a "no-go" zone by the sanctuary staff - ostensibly in an attempt to stop a chimp from throwing a rock at a group of visitors he was giving a lecture to.

If that's indeed the case, it was a very poor judgement on his part - he could just as well have warned the visitors to back away to a safe distance. He not only put his own life and well-being at risk, but that of the sanctuary staff as well when they had to rush in to rescue him.

Perhaps it's a case of the old saying "familiarity breeds contempt" - in the case of both the gent and the chimps - with deadly consequences.

One of the staff said that one of the chimps kept charging at him even after firing three warning shots in front of the animal. I didn't manage to catch what he said the final outcome was - other than the staffer appeared to be unharmed.

He killed the chimp that he shot at.

Chimps are very very smart and very very powerful. Trying to keep them as a pet is in no way similar to keeping an animal like a rabbit who is satisfied as long as they have three squares.

Chimps kept confined are about like humans in jail. They have all the time in the world to think about how to get out or get what they want....and no qualms about doing it.

Not to mention sneaking over fences that have signs forbidding entrance. Some people have to push the red button. The Official Red Button Appreciation Page

I've been reading that chimps are 3 to 4 times stronger than humans. Hard to believe almost but clearly they are not to be trifled with. I didn't realize til several years back that the cute chimps we see in movies are essentially babies.

I believe the rule is that if you don't get them trained by 60# you cannot train them at all because then they are tougher than an adult human male.

You got a link to the rule book you "believe" that information from, or did you read it in the Chimp Trainers Official Rules and Regulation Book, when you designed that ChimpTraining Center? Unless it's one of those Chimp Training Rules that Chimp Trainers don't ever write down and seldom mention?

And all the chimps they use in all those studies where the get them to do things have been trained to do those things before they're sixty pounds, even when they get the chimps to do stuff like smoke cigarettes and do "mad" bumps of cocaine, like in all those government studies?

Maybe if they just tried not to make the Chimps mad when they where training them tthen hey could train the heavier ones stuff?

^ ^ If you're not careful, you're going to lose your charm school scholarship.

I nominate you to show the world that chimps can be trained even when they're big and strong enough to hold you down and chew your face off.

no. It is something a fellow told me back in college who was very interested in such matters. it has a ring of truth to it still.
