Is there any politician whose promises you can believe in? If so, you are a fool. If you get what they promised you, there will be some strings attached. If you don't, you are probably luckier.

The only thing the President can do is really veto and that means throwing out the baby with the bathwater. In reality, it becomes a hostage situation. Agree to all the pork or you be the azzhole that refused say armor to the troops.

What kind of stone are we talking about?

I would suggest that the majority of the so-called 'great' presidents are much like those three I've named -- lionized because of superficial treatment in history.

Perhaps a case could be made for obscurity, in which a nation at peace and without domestic crisis provides us with presidents nobody remembers.

I differed with Reagan on numerous things - I think SDI is about 98% the white elephant from hell - but I'll give him credit for the amazing rapprochement (me, wanna-be Frenchie) he had with Gorbachev. It was the force of his personality that made a lot of that happen, though Gorbachev was a pretty unique figure himself, now mostly reviled in Russia IINM, for bringing about the end of the Soviet Union.

I like the title from the OP: The Short List of B.O.'s Broken Promises.

"Short list of broken promises": not bad for a politician.

No, I certainly don't believe any of them. The amazing thing to watch is the people that even believe them after they've gone a whole term proving a whole list of broken promises, ready to give them a second term. The epitome of gullibility.

You're correct EXCEPT in the few cases where the president has shown leadership, he has been able to put forth plans and concepts that inspire people even including the congress. Been a LONG time since we've had one of those.

Not a bad piece of logic.

Yes, but what is the choice? Vote the next guy who is also a liar? Replacing a liar with a liar doesn't help so better the devil you know.

How about one or two SCOTUS appointments and lets end this pesky 2nd amendment crap once and forever?

We've only just begun....

Nah. He is too fond of his "gangsta rap" routine. Makes him feel like a man or something.

Then it is a push since the left wing nut jobs also like him. Personally, I'd like to have him impeached for something more concrete. Maybe murder, rape, etc, etc.

The right has their nut jobs as does the left. The only difference is which side of the aisle they sit on. IMO, none are better than the other.

Looking now like his left wing NJ base is too.

Larry, and all of the GOP supporters are just mad because they see the Western Imperialist Empire crumbling, and imploding from the inside-just as all Empires throughout history have failed..

Bye bye Miss American Pie......

Hello China Rising:D

Hello China Rising:D

Only way to know if something has failed and not return is in history. This place hasn't failed yet although at the pace it goes, it could.

If China is such a great place and the one you left is so sucky, why didn't you move there in the first place? I'd get in on the ground floor if I felt it was that great. If I felt the way you do about this place, and I did with "that place whose name shall not be spoken", I'd leave and I did. Got to do the ID and passport burning too. Fact is, you left here trying to find something better. So if China was that great, why aren't you there too? Why still keep your citizenship here? I dumped mine as soon as I cleared out permanently. Perhaps China doesn't want some half breed like you and wants their pedigreed pure bred Chinese as opposed to what the Cantonese call "Red Hair Dog"? Or perhaps you have East Indian blood where you are "Kiling Devil"? Not sure exactly what decent you are but I'll bet the Chinese have some derogatory comments about any half breed people from any part of the world but China. You do know that their name translates to "Center Country", right? And BTW, they were once a superpower by those terms and slumped down and came back up to the point you are tooting their horn for them. We might not be as done as you think we are.

The U.S. legitimate?

Out of 35 developed countries it ranks the 2nd highest child poverty rate.

Empires, by their very nature, dont last. They normally crumble from within.

The countdown has started.

Botnst 07-09-2012 08:52 AM

How long has the use been in that bracket? what are the criteria?

Tell that to the Chinese. How old is the group again? They were the height of civilization when others were barely scratching the ground for food.

So why are you still not trying to get in on their ground floor if it is so good and you are member to a crumbing empire? Can't you do better?
