I differed with Reagan on numerous things - I think SDI is about 98% the white elephant from hell - but I'll give him credit for the amazing rapprochement (me, wanna-be Frenchie) he had with Gorbachev. It was the force of his personality that made a lot of that happen, though Gorbachev was a pretty unique figure himself, now mostly reviled in Russia IINM, for bringing about the end of the Soviet Union.

You're correct EXCEPT in the few cases where the president has shown leadership, he has been able to put forth plans and concepts that inspire people even including the congress. Been a LONG time since we've had one of those.

If China is such a great place and the one you left is so sucky, why didn't you move there in the first place? I'd get in on the ground floor if I felt it was that great.
