Just back from the auction

And brought home a 1989 Mercedes 420. Got her for a grand. Everything but the A/C works. Even the clock. 125000 miles with all service records. Let the nickel and diming begin.

Crappy cell phone at dusk pic.

So far I have to replace the valve cover gaskets (a little damp), get the left front tire rebalanced and check the A/C.

The inside needs the standard cleaning and the outside needs a polishing.

I'm excited to be back in a MB.

When were the timing chain and guides replaced? IIRC, this is usually a good thing to do at around 100K for this motor.

From what I can tell the water pump and the chains were replaced at 98000. It say the A/C was fixed around the same time.

That is my favorite Mercedes chassis. Elegant and understated. It's hard to imagine adding anything to the body or taking anything away of changing the lines without detracting from it. I sure liked my W124's an awful lot. But I have seen a few body mods that worked on the w124. I haven't seen any that I thought improved the 126.

I agree Bot. Best to clean it up and keep it stock.

More pics from today. I haven't cleaned it yet. The PO owned some sort of fru fru dog judging by the fur everywhere.

The lady that owned it passed and the car was parked for a few years. It was a one owner Connecticut car and was well maintained. I am guessing they moved here from the Hilton Head passes and decals.

A receipt for an idle issue and replacement of the right rear molding. (shown in the first pic as darker then the rest.)

Here's the window sticker

And the original price.

I have to replace the left headlight due to a hole and I replaced the wipers. Drove it all day and runs perfectly. Going to polish it up this weekend after replacing the valve cover gaskets.
