Crossing the Congo in a Landcruiser

This was an incredible read, I had to share it with you all, this couple sure had guts and certainly had quite the adventure! I think my w124 could have handled this trip!

They are gutsy. That's not a very new Landcruiser either.

Right, but I'm not heading across the Congo in any of them any time soon. I'd take the Fuso though.

I just finished reading the entire thing which has literally taken me a few hours, they've not only just drove through the Congo but they've been driving around the world! The Congo was literally just another part of their trip. This couple saved up, quit both their jobs and sold everything to just drive around the world. Now I am not a huge fan or a fan at all of Toyota but that's a tuff Landcruiser! Normally i'd would be all about a LR defender or a LR in general for something like that, but the Landcruiser has made me think twice. What they're doing is something I'd hope to do in my life once....

It'll take me a while to work my way thru the whole story. It's fascinating. I've owned 3 Land Cruisers. I'd never consider a Rover over a Cruiser. Years ago I read the account of the Alaska--Tierra Del Fuego trip with Range Rovers. Drove thru the Darien Gap. Nothing but repeated mechanical break downs.

I like the MANN trucks and the Mercedes 913(?) 4wd drive pictured in the early pages. The priests in the missions are nothing short of amazing.

Cool trip but it sounds like a really crappy country.

Yep. They were better off as a colony, and the older ones their who remember it seem to agree.

That's where I would have seriously questioned if pressing on was an option. Knowing people like that we're out there and if you broke down...

Yeah I wouldn't do it without a lot of fire power and a bunch of people I can trust to wield it.

I give them credit but its not a trip I would do. Driving across Russia is more what I would be interested in.

I finished the entire thread as well.

Wow, what a story! Scary too...that guy sure did keep his cool.

The only thing I see is that they really should have brought a manual cable winch with them. Amazing that they made it through at all!
