Ken300D what is this auction about...anybody..

Hello Ken or anybody, in Jan you commented on a post about carfax
not being enough. I realize the loop holes.

You mentioned the
Auto Auction eastern Region.

What is this?

A member ran a carfax for me for an '84 300CD.

It only goes as far back as 1996 , at which point it shows this vehicle as sold by the Auto Auction eastern Region.

No salvage title came up. It passes carfax clean 100%.

What conclusions can be made about this?

I can't see the car personally due to distance.

Thanks

Denis

There will probably be someone with more experience and insight, however, I'll give it a shot.

The cars that go through the Regional Auto auctions, for whatever reason, are usually trade-ins that the dealer has evaluated and decided they can't resell for a profit. So they send them to auction.

It can be for a multitude of reasons:

It's Junk.
It doesn't suit their "vision" of themselves in terms of what they want on their lot.
It's Junk.
It's too old for most buyers.

etc.etc.

Some Points To Consider...

First, why not see if we have a member in the vicinity of this car that can check it out for you?

Second, many dealers who are not familiar with the high-mileage reputation and longevity of Mercedes vehicles (particularly the diesels) will send them to auction even though they are in great shape just because of the high mileage on the car not meeting their established criteria that applies to all trade-in's...

YOU BOTH MAY BE CORRECT!!!

in 1996 when it was auction bought, it registers 207K miles.

currently it has 209K miles (claim is a 'rebuilt engine' at approx. 125K...somewhere before the first carfax record.)

Anyway it is in Bordentown, New Jersey.

Anybody have any interest to
check this number out?
