GM...what a mistake that was.

With GM stock prices dropping like flies, we stand to lose much more than the 23.6 billion the Treasury forecast in November of 2011.

Oh NO !!!!

Everyone go run right out and go buy a new Chevy Aveo to save them.

Then go screech the tires a few times in honor of American ingenuity!

The only problem with it would be when you brought it home the neighbors wouldn't KNOW if you'd BOUGHT a new car. Or just RENTED one.

Oh wait!!!!

Aren't they made in Korea?

OMG ,maybe we are in ereal trouble here.

Repaying $12.5B a year is pretty good. At this rate it should be done in two more years.

The number of jobs saved is estimated at 1.5 million. Let's cut that to 1 million just to be safe.

If those jobs average a salary of $40,000 a year, and taxes are paid at an average rate of 20%.... That's $40,000,000,000 in income X 20% tax rate= $8,000,000,000 a year to the US coffers in tax revenues.

So if GM stop payment today the debt would be paid off in about 4 years. After that it's just all gravy.

Conservatives make the mistake of thinking that the US loaned GM money like a car loan. Nope. Check out the meaning of the term 'Investment Bank' and you will see that not only do we expect to be paid back but we also own a piece of the action forever and ever and ever and we don't even have to take a Management role.

I think Republicans are just mad because they were not smart enough to think of this first.

Yep. And it's particularly advantageous when you're anti-Obama and don't like GM no matter what they do.

The Washington Free Beacon? Really?
I don't suppose they have any sort of agenda. No.

Saved jobs? Good. Own part of the company forever? No good. Telling the rest of big business that you too can be saved when you **** up- very no good. Looking at future taxes from jobs saved as a valid pov then we might as well make direct payments to citizen for all future bailouts. We could redistribute the wealth much more quickly that way. I'm not a republican but I don't think you can climb inside their minds and interpret what you think they might be thinking; never did get around to that mind reading class you seem to have taken.

GM is now making some very competitive models, I expect they will do very well in the coming years. I see Cruze's everywhere.

I heard that GM is starting a new line of vehicles in 2013 called the Soetoro, Soetoro GS, and SoeToro GTX.

I do too.

But they are all rental cars: Little bar code stickers on their rear door windows. No dealer plate frames surrounding the license plates.

Yes the newer gm labels seem to be selling fairly well locally. Time will tell how it all works out. I do expect at least some car companies to go full out with product improvements soon to increase their market share. Or at least attempt to. Thinking especially honda and perhaps toyota. They will want to rerstore their positions in north america.

Huyundia seems to have come on strong this year with their newer designs and fuel milage increases for example. I do not want one of their products new myself as many other manufactures products are better quality still in my opinion.

That said I would buy one over any car of comparable price in the big three lineup at this point. The big three in some way lost customer trust in a big way. Or at least ours.

They really turned out some junk and they knew they were doing it. We purchased two of them new unfortunatly during that period. One literly fell apart. The other was never truly reliable from day one. neither had decent resale value.

We also purchased a new gt vega wagon in about 1974. It left more than a little to be desired. The absolute worse cars we have ever owned where products of the big three. Resale value was too low when we were finished with them as well. By that time the manufacturers hype had died and they were well known as lemons.

At one time the quality for the money was at a world standard or actually set it for the big three. They had to know what they were doing to themselves. Worse was what they were intentionally doing to their customers..

I saw a Volt today! It was a dealer car though so it doesn't count
