Jay Leno's garage

From another list, this link was provided by the ever vigilant Kathy Kennel, former president of MBCA.

...I think I shooorrrrrrrted out my keyboard with droo ooooLLL!

This is the best coverage of his garages yet!

I remember fondly walking around the Monterey Historics with Jay and his wife Mavis. He had a mini video camera in one hand, and he had a very quick pace, looking at one car and then to another. All the while he kept a monolog going as to what he was seeing for the camera, and chatting to me about what we were seeing.

All in all, I had a fine time within that 10 minutes of cruising with Jay, and found him to be very open to people, and knowledgable about automotive stuff.

That same day, I chatted with the great race driver and automotive writer Paul Frere! We were looking at a vintage racer at thetime, and I couldn't figure out what this snail-like device was which was mounted on the outside of the engine block.

Hey, I asked him! Who better, in the whole world, right? He looked at it, and it actually took him a second or two as well, but he knew alright!

"Zis is ze water pompa"

"Ah, merci Paul!"

This might seem like an old and hackneyed phrase, but

YOU MUST SEE THIS EVENT BEFORE YOU DIE!

Gee!¡ I have the room in the back yard for a garage that big but it sure would look empty with just my lawnmower in it

even jay leno would drool over this:

http://www.fortunecity.com/silverstone/lancia/58/article/brunei/sultan.htm

Excerpt:

"Imagine how crazy a car enthusiast could be: owns a McLaren F1? A Dauer 962? A Mercedes CLK-GTR? These become nothing if compare [sic] with the Sultan of Brunei. His collection includes 350 Rolls-Royces, 8 McLaren F1s, 6 Dauer 962 LMs, the only right-hand-drive CLK-GTR in the world, a pair of Jaguar XJR-15, a Porsche 959, 3 Cizeta V16Ts, a Lamborghini Diablo Jota .... and 5,000 other premium cars ..."

That's five-thousand. Five-Oh-Oh-Oh.

A friend of mine sold Jay Leno a motorcycle that's in that garage somewhere. A Munch Mammut (Mammoth). Pretty rare bike. He took it from Wisconsin to Jay's house in the back of a station wagon.
He said Jay was really nice, down to earth guy, gave him tickets to "the green room" and everything.
