Arizona Choose Marijuana Dispensary Via Lottery

Using a "bingo machine", the State of Arizona narrowed down the number of applicants for medical marijuana dispensary permits. Arizona voters passed the medical marijuana law in 2010 and the state has issued 30,000 patient cards since. However, the state has not issued the necessary permits and approved sites for the dispensaries.

Winners of the lottery advance to the next round of applications, background checks, site inspections and other requirements.

What's notable about this:

1) It's harder to open a legal dispensary than a liquor store or smoke shop

2) Arizona officials like Gov. Brewer and State AG, Tom Horne declared that the dispensaries violate federal drug laws and as Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery vowed to prosecute any that opened.

Hmm, officials from Arizona that believe that Federal laws trump their own state laws . . . who'd a thunk it?

I never understood the bogey man rumors about MJ. Since it rivals alcohol & cigs, maybe their lobbies are behind the fight, in order to decrease legal competition....

I believe that public opinion polls and voting patterns now show that US voters have shifted towards legalization of not only medical use, but also recreational use.

Hmm, how about a wild rumour that legalization would be an "October Surprise" by a candidate?

That would be fantastic. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least. The country is going straight to hell in a hand basket. Why should this sleazy part of our society not be going with it?

Don't know about that.
I don't ever recall getting violent on weed.
Maybe horny and hungry.

There's pluses and minuses to legalization on both sides of the fence.
Was a real good show on TNT maybe over the weekend, one on weed the other on coke. Real eye opener.

Oh good, a man from the temperance movement! Nice of you to open with an insult. Please tell us how the campaign for moral purity is going. After all this time and money, I would expect the War on Drugs to be just about won.

It's enough to drive one to 1) drink an alcoholic beverage; 2) smoke or chew tobacco; 3) consume an entire entree from the Cheesecake Factory; 4) buy some "bath salts"; 5) buy several thousand rounds of ammo though the internet.

6) Exercise your 2nd Amendment right to shoot up a crowded movie theatre or schoolyard
