Israelli jets on the ready

Israelli media reports that a military strike on Iran could happen within months.
Saudi Arabia gives OK for Israe lto use their airspace in the event of an attack on Iran.

The list of defense-related and other gifts the U.S. administration is willing to offer Israel in exchange for construction freeze in the settlements, includes 20 F-35 fighter jets.
Price per unit..$130 million each.

Those jets are sitting ready for an attack ? Well maybe they are there, definitely not sitting on the runway waiting for clearance to take off. Maybe taken out of storage.
They will fly many missions/exercises before they are on any sort of alert for attack !

Israel is a co developer in the JSF program, I think they would be pretty pissed off and rightfully so if we cheated them out of their plane after so much money and years worth of work.

Were not giving them anything, they helped develop the plane.

Eight individual aircraft.

Please understand that the threat they face comes from close in, so their defenses are structured to meet this threat. Long range aircraft are not the kind of thing they really have much use for, so they don't have many of them.

That's why they need to use our KC-135's to give them the range they need.

If I were Persian...

And living "In Country"
I'd be making plans for a European Vacation (Sojourn) of about 5 years duration.
Starting About... Tomorrow.

Unless the people of Iran, start agitating, during the morning hours for their freedoms.

THE Sheik (NO, not any of the Saudis) has "Nod,Nod,Wink,Wink" told the
Israelites that if: the Mullahs,Akmenedijad and the "Guard" all Vanish, no
one in the middle east will lose any sleep.
But,if it takes the Nagasaki-ization of Teheran,So Be IT!

All the reporting is that Israel has at least 8-10 Boeing 707 based large aerial refueling aircraft, the actual attack aircraft would be about 125 very advanced long range configured F-15L and F-16Ls as well as long range UAVs they have developed on their own. Of course, modern air warfare does not require that individual attack aircraft fly the entire distance using only the fuel they have at take off. They would take off and refuel inflight and probably numerous times inbound and again outbound.

It has been reported that Israel also has planned possible attacks from non-Israeli territory within much closer striking distance, and any attack would likely include a combination of attack modes. Aerial refueling aircraft would possibly be originating from non-Israeli territories, and intercept attack aircraft at various points.

Other strategies could have the attack originating from Israel and then post attack fly-on's to non-Israeli staging areas, in places like Azerbaijan.
A BBC report a couple of hours ago details some of the background on this.

BBC News - Why Azerbaijan is closer to Israel than Iran

Here's a good report from earlier in the year the BBC did about some of the complexities involved.

BBC News - Analysis: How Israel might strike at Iran

For all the uncertanties as to whether Israel would attack Iran, one thing IS clear-in terms of International Law, such a strike would be illegal.

For it to be considered legal the UN Security Council would need to authorise such a strike, because Iran has not launched an armed attack on Israel or the U.S.

There is virtually no support among experts for attacking to 'pre-empt' a hypothetical future attack.

Israel's defense has always been based on attack first. Twice the invasion of Lebanon and the strikes on Iraq and Egypt are the prove of that. I found it there for hard to believe they only have 8 long distance fighters/bombers.

If used in the proper manner eight would be all you would need.

The planning that would go into such an event would be the critical part, but there is only one thing that a Leader can count on in battle and that is that something will go wrong.

How the Leader deals with the situation when it goes wrong is what determines success or failure. If the Leader is locked into one way of doing things they had better hope that one way works. Otherwise they are doomed to fail.

I don't know what they might have up their sleeve or who they might be cutting a deal with, but to go it alone would seem to be a poor way of doing things.

They don't! They have about 125 at least, somebody who doesn't know very much about the subject misunderstands something they think they read! The same way they now think that a strike against Iran could somehow be conducted with eight such aircraft "if used in the proper manner... would be all they need" it's complete babbling nonsense it has to be noted that nothing has been provided to substantiate such claims.

Read the BBC article it gives a pretty decent overview of what is involved.

You guys fail at the internet. It takes just a few seconds to find out how many airplanes the Israeli Air Force has.
