iTunes/iPhone help
The non-Mac PC I used to sync my iPhone with is gone. I have iTunes setup on a replacement PC and the music library is restored. I had a single playlist with the songs to sync to the iPhone. The iPhone still has all the songs. If necessary, most if not all the files from the old PC are available in a backup drive. How do I restore the playlist in iTunes?
Thanks, Sixto 87 300D |

Non Mac PC is redundant.

If the playlist was just all the songs, and all the songs are back in the iTunes library, you really don't need a playlist.

I mean I have about 5000 songs in iTunes and there are about 800 in a playlist that syncs with the iPhone. I read about people having hundreds of playlists. I'm happy with one. There isn't room for 5000 songs in my iPhone or I'd just sync the whole deal.
No matter, I recreated half the playlist this evening. I should be done before I figure out the 'other' way to do it. Sixto 87 300D |

Isn't the playlist info stored in icloud? Should just be able to snyc the new machine with the cloud and be done with it.
Personally, I really dislike iTunes, so I never use it. Media monkey is my solution to get music on and off my iPhone. But... contract is just about over so iPhone is going and Android will take it's place.

I'v rather enjoyed not having the iPhone...I use doubletwist to play the music on my Android phone. Everyone has a different devise and different playlists they use.

The only way I have been able to do this is to copy the entire iTunes music folder from one PC to the other and put it in the "same" place on the new PC. That will trick iTunes into thinking it is on the same computer as before and your playlist and playcounts will be the same as they were when you copied the file.

cmb, I'm not on iCloud. My wife inadvertently signed up and now her phone keeps telling her she's out of back-up space. It's pay more or manage better. I'm not ready for that decision
jp, one of my criteria is the good selection of affordable car stereo units that control iPhones and iPods. I'm really happy with an $80 JVC box that doesn't have a CD player I don't need. iTunes as a user interface is nothing to be proud of but AT&T's flakiness remains the worst aspect of having an iPhone. It's gonna be 8 long months. gator, that requires more cranial capacity than I have. I tried that to be told that the library file wasn't exported properly. Well, recreating the playlist went more quickly than I expected and only one song is missing; as in there was one song on the iPhone that isn't in my library. I didn't think to read the iPhone as an external drive before giving up and sync'ing. It wasn't an iTunes purchase and we don't need to get into where I got it Sixto 87 300D |

You can choose what to store in the cloud. I actually don't keep any music in the apple cloud, as I already have so much in the larger free google cloud.
Can't use an iPhone as an external drive, except for pictures. Everything else must go through iTunes. Glad you got it (almost) all back.

Like me, my wife doesn't need one more thing to manage The bulk of what's on her phone is photos and videos. There is no classification or categorization whatsoever. She doesn't even want the iCloud feature for storage but it was required for some app.
Even mp3s aren't accessible as an external drive? Sixto 87 300D |

Incredible corporate paranoia. I think the iPhone would be even more popular (if that's possible) than it is now, if they allowed users to root the device without fear of reprisal.

I guess they've come a long way. I got an iPod way back when because the generic usb drive interface on the low end stereos I tried was clumsy. It was far easier to scroll through artist listings with an iPod than a memory stick. As much as I don't think iPods are anything special to use, the darn thing I got used for $70 has sat in the glove box for coming on 8 years without missing a beat. Once in a while it won't turn on with the stereo so I have to reach over and push the button manually. Then it's fine other than not carrying on where it left off.
