When did Ohio move...

south of the Mason-Dixon line??

“I guess I really actually feel we shouldn’t contort the voting process to accommodate the urban — read African-American — voter-turnout machine,” said Doug Preisse, chairman of the county Republican Party and elections board member who voted against weekend hours, in an email to The Dispatch. “Let’s be fair and reasonable.”

Where in Husted's rules, does it say that this is meant to attack black voters?

Living in Ohio for most of my life, it's safe to say that more whites vote than blacks. Why?? Because the state is more white than black. To have special voting hours to accommodate one group over another is nothing more than pandering. It's also a waste of time and money. Whenever they scream racial tensions in Ohio, everything changes for one group, but not the other.

Having a uniform shut off time makes sense. People are just going to have to make sure that they either vote early, or be prepared to meet the non-existent lines at the polls.

It is not just hours. It may be a lack of adequate places to vote in a timely manner as well.

Fine then, don't like absentee ballots? Don't like keeping polls open? National Election holiday. Non-essential businesses must not open. Essential ones must schedule to allow everyone a chance to vote.

lol - Around here the ppl running for the various offices pick the voters up from their home, drive them to the polling place and then drives them home. You would not believe how serious some of these folks get about being a commissioner or some such.

There isn't a shortage of areas to vote in Ohio. Polls are open until 7pm statewide.

Those lines weren't there all day...they started becoming a problem after work hours.

It's pretty cool how the media can post one or two pictures of something that isn't normal and build a national news story out of it...

And you don't see a problem with that? Polls closing at 7, lines wrapped around the building after 5...
Those pesky low income wage-slave Obamacrats who can't get off work early to vote... why should we accommodate them? They aren't going to vote for our guy anyway..., let's lock 'em out...

Another republican attempt to disenfranchise people in the lower tax brackets.

Its just a lack of ambition on the part of the voter. Why here in Mississippi people get out of their graves to vote!

Really...read the article.

Who's to say that all of those in line were voting for Obama?

A study by the Franklin County Board of Elections shows that 48 percent of early, in-person votes in 2008 were cast after hours on weekdays, on weekends or on the Monday before the election — almost none of which is available to 2012 voters.

And those late ballots came predominantly from blacks and Democrats, the research shows. In all, 8 percent of whites cast early in-person ballots, while 13.3 percent of blacks did, said the study, which used census data to estimate the racial breakdown of voters.

You see, in contrast to others, I did read the article.

just as soon as you put down the republican bong....

Think, just for a second, outside of your political box.
Why would ANY politician do ANYTHING??
One answer - Personal or political advantage

Why did the republicans change the voting hours in Ohio?
answer - Political advantage

You did notice that the original changes were only in 'certain' areas??

Agree. I dont understand why we dont have this already. I mean, besides the political BS reasons.

Is this not the case in other countries?

I would love to buy one of those Republican bongs.

If you use one to get high, does it make you feel like you are a bank-loving multimillionaire?

It is the case in a few that I've visited*. Of course, none of those countries are as democratic as ours, so it must be a bad idea.

* In Mongolia, for example, you can't even buy beer or other alcohol, which may not be optimal. I'm not sure if I could vote for either Mittens or Obama if I wasn't drunk.
