In Florida and else where there's laws about price gouging.........how come the petroleum companies can do it ?

Now, when it gets cold here and i have to buy to burn fuel to continue in business, I don't increase my rate or parts prices. So now they have another excuse...

Well, it is certainly within your rights to increase your prices seasonally; but it might not be great for customer relations.

It does seem like almost anything is used as an excuse to raise prices, and we rarely hear of the opposite; but shutting in a portion of GOM production can obviously have an effect on supply.

Independent retailers who are supplied from Gulf Coast refineries are going to raise prices in advance of any perceived supply disruption. Most of them operate on pretty thin margins anyway, so they can't afford to sell too cheap or they may not be able to refill their tanks.

Company owned retail outlets always take what they can, when they can. They are always looking to maximize profit.

Golly, fuel prices are set as simple as that? I didn't know. Foolish me, I thought there was a BMF oil cartel that skewed the market through manipulation of availability. Then there's the wars in oil producing areas that drive-up shipping insurance prices on the small population of humungous and shockingly expensive tankers, not to mention hurricanes and other natural phenomena. And that's just on the source/crude side. Then you get to the refining stage, in which a small number of refineries have to plan months in advance what they will refine and how much. And lets not forget distribution, in which each state in the USA establishes its own fuel ratings to be sold in that state. Etc.

I was so wrong! It's just due to big oil colluding with speculators. Things are so much simpler when one is simple.

No politicians were harmed by this sarcasm.

TAMPA --Tropical Storm Isaac could shake up security plans for the Republican National Convention in Tampa because about half of the expected officers come from other parts of Florida, and some could be forced to stay home for the storm, authorities said Thursday.

More than 3,500 officers from 59 agencies around the state are scheduled to come to Tampa to patrol the streets as the convention opens Monday. About half would come from outside the Tampa area.

Fail: Josh's 'Benders' page backfires

The second creator of sexually degrading Facebook page 'Benders Root Rate' has been sentenced to four months jail.

The page, which went viral in June last year, named and rated the sexual performance of local teens, some as young as 13.
