cleaning out the garage

My brother and I loaded an old Cadillac engine and about four or five old broken or unloved mercedes blocks onto my flatbed trailer to take to the salvage yard. We also loaded on odd steel, automatic flywheels unloved, an old caddy crank, a 52 caddy hearse driveshaft and four very nice 115 doors complete with glass. We also loaded a couple of rusty 123 hoods, some old caddy air cleaner housings and the (yep, you guessed it) a kitchen sink....one of the old cast iron ones it was all two of us could do to lift and stagger 25' to the trailer.

My brother and I each have a hip replacement and I have a partial knee replacement so we were the walking wounded with the heavier items.

We rented an engine hoist for the engines.

I thought I was going to qualify for the Chinese Heavy lifing expert name "
Won Hang Lo" after that.

One day this week it will all go to the yard for scrap.

I sat in my chair while the kids re-arranged furniture and steam cleaned the carpet...It's good to be the dad at times!!

The house/shop are such a mess (3 lifetimes of accumulated junk) that I had to meet someone yesterday to discuss a plan of attack for getting rid of it all!

I have the same thing going on at my place. Cleaned up all of the scrap metal I've been saving for a couple of years, plus a range and several batteries. 4 cat converters as well.

Got it all loaded on a trailer ready to go. Local recycle yard is paying
8 cents a lb for steel, and 20 for lead.

Got tired of seeing the "metal guy" raid my trash the night before our weekly pick-up.

Dragged a 24' extension ladder around the house, changing the 9V backup batteries on six ceiling smoke detectors after one started to beep. Went with the $6 lithium Energizers, so I should be good for more than a few years.

Wouldn't those Caddy parts have some value to a collector/restorer?

Daughter in college...so 90% of the entropy in the house now resides miles away!

I slept the whole weekend!

I have sold a thousand or so worth of caddy parts in the last 6 months. These are parts which nobody had any interest in. The crank is like a 240d crank. Beautiful steel piece which never wears out so the market is pretty thin on them.

A polished up crank and flywheel with a glass top, makes for a lovely end table.

I still have a spare Caddy crank. I'll sell it cheaply. With 12 grandchildren around I think I will pass on any glass topped anythings.

What did the sink look like? One of these? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-antique-cast-iron-farm-farmers-farmhouse-sink-/170899913968?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27ca6dbcf0 or these? I think they do have some value though these prices seem steep.

Wow! Mine is smaller with no sideboards but I need to look and see what they are selling for. I might have to keep it!

Thanks for the thought!

I looked on ebay and found one like mine. two actually a 30" and a 36" one was 700 the other 900. I better pull that off the trailer!

I think its in pretty decent shape too or I would not have saved it.
