Caddy pickup

1949 Cadillac Truck - One of a Kind Custom!!

I spotted this on the Cadillac Lasalle forum where I have been selling off my old caddy parts.

It would make an awsome tow vehicle for my formula ford!

Cool looking old ride. Would be interesting to see how the body work has fared through the years.
I would be afraid that this may be an understatement - and would need some TLC again to get it into show condition....

Rusty and old as it is, the '49 looks better

I knew some coachbuilder built open flower cars for funerals at one time based on the cadillac. I do not think I have ever seen one other than in pictures.

Many moons ago I saw a packard hurst in a salvage yard. It had the most grotesque whole wooden side panels on it. Looked to be hand carved. Early thirties body.

I saw a 53 caddy flower car here in Lafayette about 20 years ago. It was pretty sweet but too much $ for me.

Ray drove one in Alices Restaurant (the movie).

looks familiar-Anyone who grew up near Saratoga, Ca please weigh in--

I grew up in a neighborhood populated with cheesy wannabe-Eichler houses off Saratoga Avenue--I could have sworn this car was parked off near Cox Avenue for many years, and that was in the mid '70s!

Caribou Motor Company did pickup and wagon conversions on Cadillacs in the '70's. I remember seeing one when I was in school one day.

It's neither.

Then again, trucks are no longer trucks and this.... I don't even know how to classify this. It's an automobile... but it lacks many important things like: style, taste, a true purpose, utility, style, ruggedness, cargo capacity, style, responsiveness, road feel, handling, style.... I could go on.

I would still buy a hudson pickup truck if a decent one came along the pike. Always thought them a somewhat unique item. Tastefull combination of car and truck to me. Mid 1940s vintage. Hudson was also well above average quality at the time with high nickle content blocks and fluid bath clutches.

Yeah, they are cool too. My favorite though is the Studebaker Coupe express from the mid to late thirties.

For years in the 1980's in Abilene, TX, I passed a trashed out house with at least 40 great old restorable vehicles parked around it. The one I wanted was a 1947 Hudson pickup with a rust-free body that needed mechanical work. I offered $2500. The old geezer owner said no, the cars were his childrens' inheritence. I stopped at least once every two months and got the same answer to my offer.

One day I passed by the house and all the vehicles were gone. I saw a young woman and a man walking around the house. I stopped and talked to the woman. She said that she was the daughter of the old guy and that the guy with her was the realtor who would be selling the house. He told her if she got rid of the trashy cars, she might get $15,000 for the house so she got the junkyard to pick them up for free. The Hudson was far from the best car there, so I told her she probably could have gotten $75,000 to $100,000 for the cars. I left the realtor to his fate and went to the junkyard.

I got to the junkyard and the guy there said it took all day to get those cars from the house to the crusher. Nobody would ever want parts for 40 year old cars.

As to the original topic, about ten years ago I saw a 1959 Cadillac converted to an El Camino type vehicle in Santa Ana, TX. The asking price was $5000. It was good enough I had to check online to see if Cadillac really made one.
