I plan to put a large bull horn along with a strobe light on the roof with some kind of door and window sensors. Any advice would be appreciated.
Inform you insurance company of the security upgrade. This may contribute to either lower rates or them not dropping you. I do not know the physical area of what you want to protect or it's proximity to people that would notice a triggering of your system.

Window and door devices with a main motion detector in the circuit. Just in case they defeat one of the door or window sensors. Easily done in my opinion.

If the buildings power meter is accessable whatever you decide upon has to or should be backed up with a power replacement unit(battery back up with inverter perhaps} as it is far too easy to pop a power meter.

Glad to hear your insurance company is paying as well for at least the hardware loss and hopefully the software. Sounds like a decent insurance company.

If you are good at scounging or using ebay the overall cost of gathering components for a good system should be pretty cheap in my opinion. An old larger mechanical bell could be cheaper than any form of electronic bullhorn is one thing to keep in mind. The strobe light sounds good as well. You want to raise the dead basically if this system goes off.

No I am not a theif or break and enter type of individual. The only thefts I am perhaps guilty of in my earlier days where confined to womens hearts.

Don't forget to check local pawn shops as well. And take a police report with you when you go. Don't ask me how I know to do that.

You are a print shop. Get together with the owners of the other businesses that where hit as well. Print up pamphlets stating reward offered for information leading to the criminals aprehension..

Post them on lamposts hand them out to pawnshops or whatever. Somehow state the individual claiming the rewards identity will be kept confidential. The police may even have a slush fund that will cover the reward aspect.. Check this out with them.

May be the best way to get the important past history contents of your programs back. You do not need all your recent hits and the best way to stop them continuing is to act.

Obviously, my earlier comment was before I had read through your post thoroughly. Do remember to have your police repoort handy though.

My sympathies for your rotton luck. I know the cost of recovery and re-establishing your business will be daunting. Along with the added costs of beefing up security.

You can always communicate your disgust with such incidents with asthetics of the security measures. Installing steel, roll-up hurricane shutters with padlocks etc, would serve as an effective deterrant and eyesore, if that suits your sensibilities.

If from a social perspective things eventually get too far out of hand. I can actually visualise something of this nature becoming a practice in the future.

At the same time I realise there would be a tremendious political issue over it's implementation. On the other hand being and continuing to be even more soft on crime may ultimatly mandate something considered today to be unusual to say the least.

The detremental aspect of steel door barriers etc is that they scream high crime area to me. Asthetically they are usually not pleasant either. There actual effectiveness is less in question though.

Robert, you have my sympathies as well. I hope you are able to recover the lost data. Good luck with it all.

Sounds good. Any technical questions you might wonder about alarm systems can be easily answered from the experiences of other members of this forum.

We are a diverse group with much aquired experience between us over the years it seems to me. Also the majority of members seem to have good empathy about other members difficulties in my opinion.

You may have done me a favour as well. I have never considered prior to your posting that perhaps I should install a simular system on one of our buildings. There has been no crime locally but times change and even once occurance can be very punishing.

The old saying of closing the gate after the horse has gotten out comes to mind. I have no insurance on the contents of that building either.

this is what I get for not checking OD, I'm sorry to hear this happened if there is anything I can do lemme know. Wiring up an alarm shouldnt be too hard. I'd also suggest putting in night seeing cameras inside that records on site and could transmit the data over an internet connection
