Someone ROBBED my Shop
Someone broke into my shop and several other businesses over the weekend. The thieves stole both of my Macs and my back up hard drive. They attempted to get my new digital printer, but it was too large for them to move. The wife and I visited every pawn shop within 25 miles and came up with nothing.
here is what concerns me. The Macs were older and have the last 15 years of work on them. What I don't understand is why would anyone want two 10+ year old computers. I put the word on the street that I would pay $500 for the computers back no questions asked. Another thing I'm concerned with is that just last week I made a claim with the Ins. co. for a robbery that was an inside job by my daughter and her boyfriend. And here I am making another claim a week later. I suspect that my Ins. Co. will drop me after this, even though I made NO claims since i started with them 15 years ago. |
That sucks man, Sorry to hear,
|
You said they took your back-up hard drive...did you have your business files backed up to discs?
That sucks, man |

That really sucks. Seems like there are douche bags everywhere.
Good luck getting the designs back, the stuff is irritating, but the intellectual property is priceless. |
Daughters BF?
It is as though it was targeted to hurt you more than a $$$$ making crime. Hope you get it all back! |
Were the computers password protected? Do you have the serial numbers? Have you checked Craigslist and ebay?
|
Sorry to hear about all that Robert.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I wouldn't worry too much about the insurance, you aren't doing anything wrong by making two claims so close together. Lots of places get robbed a second time, they are used to dealing with situations like yours. Having a police report will go a long way, of course. I mean, why pay for insurance if you can't use it, right?
Is it possible that it might have been someone who had already been your work area before? It sounds like whoever did this doesn't have grasp on the what's valuable in terms of electronics. Do you think posting a sign outside of your shop and on craigslist offering a no questions asked reward might help? It would be horrible if the perp throws the items in dumpster when they realize they aren't worth anything to anyone on the open market. A good friend of mine had a iron cage built into his office at his shop, and he rolls his toolbox and computer in there at night. He said the few hundred dollars was money well spent. Another layer of security, as it were. Multiple layers, however small, will go a long way to prevent this from happening again. God Bless. |
