Are you more of a "Car Guy" or "Computer Guy"?
 

I am more of a car guy but I know some people are heavy into computers. So what are you?

My profession is computers. :)
My passion is cars. :cool:

I've always been into both...

Cars run deep in my family. My grandfather had like 8 cars, my dad has always been into cars and has had probably 50 cars over the years. at one point he owned 10 cars when I was 16.

I have always been into mechanical things, and computers were natural for me.

LOL! with the new models, where does the car stop and the computer begin? Computerized road maps, transmissions, driving habits in memory, FSS service intervals, braking, handling, etc. I read that the new Porsche has 43 microprocessor/memory nodes, the most powerful of which has more MFLOPS/RAM/CACHE/Code capacity than the first Cray supercomputer!

And with electronic brakes and steering to be integrated into the ABS/Handling/ride stability process, it is only going to get better/worse - at any rate, more complicated. My penny prediction - Hot swap low cost exchangable modules for each subsystem when the wireless diagnostic communication program informs the dealer your component is nearing its MTBF limits or has a malfunction, and limited function sharing by other modules to bypass the failing unit - a 'tell me 3 times' system. The failing unit goes back to the factory for rebuild or recycling.

(I wouldn't mind a hot swap evaporator on my 87 300E :rolleyes: )

I may like computers, but I am not persuing a career in computers and you cannot drive a computer around. So my car is my home on wheels.

Back then he had the following. one was mine though eheh..

1968 Corvette Stingray convertible - 327, weiand manifold, holley 4 barrel, hurst 4 speed. Man was that thing funt o drive, except when turning ehhe..

1966 Caddillac convertible Big boat but still cool to cruise in.

1986 Jag XJS V12 Custom Convertible - one smooth cat, but not reliable in the least.

1987 Benz 560SEL - my mom drove this and the jag. - definately one of my favorites to drive.

1985 MB 190E - My brother drove this one...

1983 GMC Jimmy K-5 - this was mine. - used to tow the boat.

1976 Chevy Blazer K-5 - Tow vehicle for the boat

1983 Rolls Royce Silver Spur - my dad's daily driver.

1966 caddy coupe for a parts car.

1977 BMW 530I - I had this for 6 months while my dad's rolls was being repaired when he got sideswiped... he dorve it for 2 months, I drove it for 4.

Roughly 10 cars hehe

Over the years he has always had cars galore, and we used to go out test driving exotics, and luxury cars every weekend. now we only do it once in a while.

I can rmemeber on a few occassions, getting to test drive ferraris for fun. at 16, getting to drive a ferrrari for fun with your dad and having him tell you to punch it and go through the gears, well you can imagine my excitement and adrenaline rushes. hehe

I plan on having a small stable of cool cars myself one day.

Well, my C43 seems really slow to me and I have a Honda with over 500hp at the wheels. I'd say that makes me a car guy.

This is quite a question. I think I'm not much of a computer guy ...

Did car shows for awhile (in my younger days), even went to the track for some weekend bracket racing.

I do computers for a living, PDA software applications, and there are four PCs and a laptop in my possesion.

...but computer programming is my profession, not my insatiable love, so I utilize my computer(s) on a need basis only...I don't shop for the latest gizmo, or feel as if I need cutting edge gear (I still do the household budget on my 100MHz dinosaur :rolleyes:). The house is wired for a hub, and eventually, I will take the time to configure a network and tie the family PCs together.

Meanwhile, the garage is my domain! :D I have a stereo system with large floor speakers to keep me humming while I tinker on the cars. The garage is not heated or A/C ready, but it does have a ceiling fan, and a 220V box is awaiting the future arrival of an air compressor.

Both!:D I use my computer to help search for ways to fix/upgrade my car, and I use my car to buy things to fix/upgrade my computer;)
All in all it works out great!

Car guy. Still being dogged by the cost of building a complete "tool box" though (if there is such a thing.) Diesels seem to have a propensity for requiring a handful of specialty tools for each individual make. :rolleyes: Fix up work tends to be glacial at best, and the in between time is spent on a PC. Having internet where I work doesn't help either. :D
