What is an 87 420SEL worth?
There's a dealer with an 87 420SEL four door sedan with 86000 original miles on it. The interior is excellent and the body is straight, rust free, with good paint. It looks to have been taken care of extremely well. The dealer is asking $7900 for it.
Is this a good price? Haven't looked around yet but thought some of you would have a good idea of the worth. |

Its a Mercedes dealer right? I would say that is a good price. I owned one for almost 4 years and I loved it. Unfortunately I didn't buy the best example on the market and I spent a fortune on it last year and finally decided to get rid of it. I checked out 6 different 420SELs before buying mine, 4 of which were at dealers and all twice the price I paid for mine, but by the time I had paid for all the repairs I would have been better off with the dealer cars I am sure. Generally MB won't sell an older car unless they are confident in it. Without having seen it I would say that is a fair price if as you described. These are great cars.

Hi 420sel... maybe you can tell me something with a similar question.
I paid $5000 (my 1st car) for a 1988 300SEL. 169K, white, gray interrior, rust free body(few rust spots on the front bumper chrome). Was that a fair price that I paid? Just curious. |

Actually no it's not on a Mercedes dealers lot. It's on a used car lot. I was just curious whether this was a good price or not. I have since checked it out on Kelly Blue Book website and it supposedly retails for about $8800. The car lot is asking $7900 but knowing a little about the car business I suspect that they would take a cash offer of $6900.
I am contemplating the vehicle as a "new" second car. Hopefully I'll get around to driving it this weekend if it's still there. The couple of times I have stopped to look at it there have been several people looking at it. |

You know I hadn't considered the possiblity of the miles being wrong, whether they had been rolled back or a new odometer put in the car. I will definately have the engine inspected.
I had a car in high school that the odometer stopped working. When I had it replaced it showed zero miles. Glad you replied!! |
