Another reason to keep your feet on the ground.

I've been on more than one flight with an obviously drunk passenger who was served yet more alcohol by the flight attendants. It seems that making $$$$ from serving alcohol to a drunk is more important than keeping the other passengers safe.

Some people need it to relax if they're afraid of flying. 99% of people don't turn into asshats of that type when drunk.

Good for those passengers! He's a good example of a narcisistic hollywood idiot that thinks he's above the law. I hope they put him in jail and throw away the key!

Horsecrap. They don't need to get stinking drunk to "relax". And I sure as hell wouldn't care to have to sit next to a drunk of ANY personality type during a flight.

How about not selling alcoholic beverages to the flying public? If flying makes them that nervous, perhaps they should keep their feet on the ground.

And some of us just enjoy a beer or glass of wine. If we're not driving or performing life-critical functions at the time, what's wrong with that?

AGREE.

At least on the ground you can walk away. Up 30,000 feet, you're kind of stuck.

If you're talking about A beer or A glass of wine (ie, singular), nothing at all - or if there's a decent interval between drinks.

If you're talking about running thru a six-pack or an entire bottle of wine in one flight, and making an inebriated a$$ of yourself to the annoyance of other passengers - well, yeah, the rest of us on the plane with you MIGHT have something against that.

Either a limit on the number of drinks per flight, or a specified time interval between drinks on longer flights, in lieu of an outright ban, might be a compromise.

Story says he lives in Virginia.... previously of Costa Rica...

But I'm sure there are other people from Southern California that deserve your vitriol...

Why not just trust people to ask responsibly? Why do Americans have to micro-manage everything? Current system works well enough -- if passenger makes a nuisance of themselves, due to booze, drugs, or just being an idiot, plane lands, passenger spends night in jail and gets hit with a lawsuit for costs of the unintended landing.

So much ado about a drunk. Instead of litigation, why not just show him the door?

How about the flight attendants who sell drinks to obviously drunk passengers? for me, the tide turned with the first news reports regarding the US Airways flight that ditched in the Hudson river. It got me to really really think about the situation when you are in an aircraft filled with people who are not trained in emergency evacuation procedures.

Seems the flight attendant attempted to stop passengers from opening the rear door on the aircraft due to the fact that water would rush in and sink the plane. The passengers literally knocked her out of the way and forced the door open. and that, dear friends, is why the US Airways plane SUNK TO THE BOTTOM OF THE HUDSON RIVER SOONER THAN LATER.

So.......think about this; you are flying in a cigar tube with a bunch of people that have never been trained in emergency procedures. Only the flight attendants are trained in emergency evacuation procedures and they are vastly outnumbered by idiot stupid passengers who don't have a clue. Add in a few passengers who are drunk and you have a recipe for disaster and maybe even death.

Haha - I'd imagine that the ACLU would lodge a complaint unless a parachute were provided.

Air travel is remarkably safe as it is.
