I lay this at the feet of the Republicans, GW's in particular. As of 2000, it was CLEARLY stated in the Republican platform to withdraw from the UN. GW had the Whitehouse and for part of his administration, control of the house & senate. It is TOTALLY inexcusable that he did not make this happen at that time!

I hear a bunch of Muslim countries want to make it a crime (applicable to member countries) to blaspheme the prophet.
I doubt it will go anywhere, but limiting free speech would be the time for us to wave bye-bye.

UN was a great idea when first conceived, but just like any other organization where politics are involved, has long since been corrupted by money and lobbyists.
Round about the time they inivited Yassir Arafat to address the General Assembly, waving a gun in the air, lauding him as a "freedom fighter" and giving him a standing ovation - that's when I figured the U.N. had pretty much seen it's day, and has been in a slow downhill slide since.
