Sorry to hear that, don't feel bad because you couldn't get her back on her feet. My father has been falling on average once a month. He's 82, about 215 and it's about all I can do to get him back to his feet because he has absolutely no strength or coordination in his legs.

The more I have to take care of him, the more I discover that it's imperative to be in good physical shape as you get older.

I'm less then useless when it comes to lifting/moving things now... tried for hours to get her up off the floor, relented and called ems...

Stay strong my man, when the wife was ill, I couldn't lift her either. Just remember, Prayer Changes Things.

This may happen again. Some type of portable lifting device with wide supporting straps might be in order. You obviously have your own issues that limit things as well.

You certainly do not want another two hour episode of trying to lift her.

So it could happen again. You need to figure out a way to deal with it, without calling EMS. They probably have a limit on those kinds of calls. Did they give you any advice?

Sorry to hear that, I hope you two get better.

The numbness may be due to nerve impingement. Hopefully it's more peripheral than closer to the CNS. But you mentioned back issues, so I hope it's not too bad.

If your mum's arms are strong, they could use a walker or cane to support herself better. It won't prevent falls, but it could make them softer and avoid fractures.
