There is nothing so permanent as a temporary repair....

Ilove in a fairly foggy place and about six years ago I went to replace a bulb in a fog lamp, only to find the connector all melted (fairly common in the W210). I knew there were repair kits available, but the dealer was closed, I needed to get it back together and preferred to have it working. So I found a viable ground point on the base and cut off the connector, replacing it with a pair of 1/4" lug connectors. + went to the bulb, - to the ground point I'd identified and I did the same to the other side since the belly pan was off and that connector was also a little melted. My intention at the time was to order the kits online and come back to it and "do it right" at some point. However...I haven't even burned out a bulb since then (I used to lose about one a year), so it's become a permanent fix and, at least in some ways, an improvement. The only downside is that it might take an extra minute or two to change the bulb, but I'm okay with that. |
