Reason for Skewed Unemployment Rate
Well, those that kept saying that the 7.8% unemployment number did not add up had accurate instincts. The REASON that they indicated less than the correct unemployment rate was that someone "conveniently" failed to include the California numbers for the month:
California at center of today's snafu on jobless numbers?* - LA Biz Observed Goes to show that B.O.'s people have no problem whatsoever putting forth false information to get their high & mighty boss re elected. Of course, it MIGHT have been an honest mistake? Naaahh......

I thought this controversy was about this week's unemployment claim number, not last month's aggregate.

I suspect the #'s will be driven lower once all those contractors who do work for the US Government become actual federal employees. That change was supposed to kick in October 1st. Not sure how that is beneficial since those new federal employees are just overhead and burdens on the tax payers. I wonder how those numbers will effect the rate ??? I bet B.O. a/k/a will take credit for that momentous achievement.

Romney tools don't want unemployment numbers below 8%, it's bad for votes. So when they fall under 8, the cries of rigging begin. Imagine that.
They'll do the same thing when they lose the election. In their mind, the only way Obama can get re-elected is through monkey business. Watch.

I have trouble seeing lower unemployment when the participation rate (according to BLS) is at a 10-year low. OK, it ticked up 0.1% last month, but still 2% lower than 2009. Yeah, aging population, people retiring. I suspect that this isn't the whole story, and the whole thing reeks.

Maybe I missed the memo, I dunno. But the BLS deals with incomplete data as matter of course. They adjust for these things to release a timely report and then later, correct the estimates based on more complete data. This is probably no different. The BLS people are good statisticians and play fair with the data. I have never previously heard of any intentional misuse of data. It is extremely hard for me to believe that they would do so in the case when they know damned well that people would be on them like stink on shyte.
Don't throw the report out. Just recognize it is provisional and will be corrected when complete data comes in. Sheesh. |

Look at the BLS track record. They are scrupulous in their analysis and reporting. I find it extremely difficult to believe that they would change their procedures in order to make a president look good (or bad). I would need a whole lot more evidence than a provisional report.
