EZ website development

I was thinking about doing some work on my own and putting up a basic web-site to promote my services. Figure I'd ask here first.

I'd like to have a domain name as opposed to using my ISP.

Also, how would I get it on the top of the google search "list"?

Thanks for any advice.

Inclusion of appropriate keywords, meta-tags, Google Ads, and Google Local Business listings, for starters.

Use WordPress to build your site, you will be guaranteed top search results within a few months, even with only basic optimization.

Really depends how unique the site is, and what keywords you want people to hit with. There can be 20 other similar WP sites, and most people only look at the first 1-2 pages of results.

Wordpress, yes I've heard of that.

Looks like this will be my fall project. Done with school now at least for a few more years.

Not that hard, really. If you want some über-basic website, a little HTML and you are ready to go. It gets progressively fancier as you enrich it with special effects and transitions. Here's one I made...

www.burlingamemotors.net

The "gallery" part of it is a separate folder with scripts.
It's really about how far you want to take it...

It only has to be purposeful, simple and easy to navigate.

My clientele are chemically dependent and "motivated" for legal reasons, so they don't have time to shop around and/or critique web site styles.

I've seen your site, very nicely done. Way more than I'll ever need!

You can register your domain through google and build your website on blogger for free. Their blog setup actually makes nice, simple websites and being google, they tend to show up high in searches right away. If you know HTML you can bypass their templates and upload your own.

edit: this is an example of an informational page a friend of mine owns that is done on google/blogger. It began showing up in the top half dozen searches only a few days after he started it. During the summer he was getting hundreds of page views a day.

+1 on blogger if you don't have the time to code.

Yes, thanks for that idea.

The competition (and there doesn't appear to be that many web sites) haven't used the blog format. That would allow me to post update concerning changes in DWI laws, current alcohol and drug issues etc.

I would have an informational site and either a link to a blog, or an area for a blog. You're assuming that most drunkards will be arsed to read through a blog.

Ease of update is huge when you do it that way. A blog is only a specialized website, with Blogger you can make it as "un-blog like" as you want.

If you don't want the url to include "blogspot", register and host the domain through google.
