Caught speeding :(

Hi,

I was very silly today. On a big, empty stretch of road I decided to put my foot down.

As I reached 125mph I spotted a police car parked up ahead. I slowed down, but he pulled me.

He showed me the gun readout, I was caught at 118mph.

The cops were really friendly, but they said I will probably recieve a courts summons next week.

It looks like a 12 month ban

Just thought I'd have a rant.

Thanks for listening!

I don't think you'll be off for 12 months, although it depends to an extent on whether you've got "form". Probably only six weeks or less if your licence is otherwise clean and unendorsed. If you represent yourself, take note of whether the officer adduces evidence to show (1) what the correct conditions for the operation of the machine are, (2) under what conditions the machine was being operated at the time of the alleged offence, and thus (3) that the machine was being used under the correct operating conditions.

If the officer does not give this evidence, the prosecution against you cannot succeed (the information is required under a certain RTA regulation, I can't remember which).

But if you get off on that one, you'll get a pull from the law at every turn for about six weeks!!

Otherwise, good luck.

Hi,

Thanks for the replys. I have never been pulled over before, and I have no record.

The police were very friendly, and I'm surprised they said I would have to go to court.

I think I'm more worried about having to travel to basingstoke, and then get back if I've been banned!!

Thanks again

12 months?!? Goodness, is that mandatory? I hope you have that reduced. The bright side is you'll have a nice low mileage benz at the end of this OK, that was bad. Best of luck.

I think they are legal to buy, but illegal to use. I've always thought about getting one. But to be honest, I don't drive like this all the time

Oliver,

I don't know how old you are or how young you can look, but my 18 yr old was clocked at 96mph in a 55 zone as he left the movie "The Fast and the Furious". Obviously, we were very proud parents and had T-shirts made up. We got to go stand in front of the Judge. His response was..."You will be SO screwed if I write you up on this. Because you brought your dad with you I'm going to let you slide". No fine, no nothing. We were the only ones that walked out of there without stopping by the cashier. Absolutely amazing to us.

Here's hoping you get grace.

only way to get off good with cops is to be straight with them, and make them feel respected and comfortable that you aren't a loony.
Take the key out and put it somewhere visible, that usually helps, too.

tickets and court

Basically this, expect the worst and hope for the best. I recently had a court date for two violations. I, fortunately, had a witness, and we were both trying to figure out our way through a coned area set up to handle race track patrons. The officer was very unprofessional, and the stop resulted an a rather heated exchange between us and the officer. I vowed to him to take the issue to court, and demanded a jury trial. When the court date came, there was no jury, and the officer was nowhere in site. The judge started talking about entering pleas, while my summons clearly stated that this was to be a trial. Well, I played along for a while and entered my plea, along with three others in the room. Ony one person entered a guilty plea for whatever their violation was. The rest of us, the Judge ratteled off "prosecution recommends dismissal" and sent us on our way, one person at a time. I was actually kind of bummed, as I had my questions, and evidence all ready to go. I'll take the win though. Granted it sounds like you were treated very well by the citing officer, and they have a real case. I'm not sure exactly how the courts work in the UK, but keep very sharp for mistakes. They made enough that morning for an immediate dismissal several times over.

My friend took his dads Bmw 528i 1998 for a ride at 129mph and was clocked doing this speed only to get off completly. How I have no idea but I guess it has something to do with his dad being a lawyer.

When I was 17 I got a ticket in my 1991 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme doing 108 mph. I was lucky I didnt get arrested. I did have to go to court to get my license back, and to pay the $548 ticket. The thing that I got ticked off about is while I was sitting in the courtroom watching all these other people go up there, almost all of them were drug related. And he was letting them off left and right. I mean just letting them go, its like he was saying "Just dont let this happen again." It was my first offense of any kind but I had to spend all the money I had saved, plus my Christmas money just to pay that ticket. I really wished he would let me off easy too. It still bugs me now even though it was 5 years ago.

this is gonna sound crazy, but.........

Here's the difference. With the druggies, they cost the system money. With the tickets, they MAKE the system money. This was why I was so surprised with how quickly my case was dismissed.

Most speeding legislation is far more revenue-oriented than safety oriented, not that any government agency will ever admit it!

Speed itself does not kill...Stupid, unattentive, uneducated, and unskilled drivers kill. One of them rear-ended my car the other day. Minding my own damn business, turning into the coffee shop for some java, and SLAM!!!....$2,900 in damage to my beloved SD!!!

Imbecels everywhere,
Mike
