Propane is LPG. I am sure there are plenty of gasers running on it.
its not man made, comes from natural gas.

In the 70's I knew a missionary to Mexico with the Dodge version of a Travelall (can't remember the name for that vehicle). Had a big propane tank on the roof and he would switch it back and forth between gasoline and propane. How well does propane work with injectors and not carbs?

Back in 2000, my state passed an alt-fuels bill that nearly bankrupted the state. The whole thing was put together by a state legislator whose political affiliation I will delicately fail to mention who just happened to have an interest in companies that were champing at the bit to begin converting new and used vehicles to propane and other fuels.
Believe it or not, you could buy a new car or truck that had been converted to LPG and the state would cover up to 22K dollars of the cost. People were getting brand new Suburbans that could run on LPG or gasoline for about half the out of pocket cost of a regular one. Companies popped up that would convert used vehicles and the state paid the ENTIRE cost of those conversions.
Thousands of these vehicles were created and sold. You got a spiffy special license plate too. The program, which the legislators had cleverly estimated to cost only about 5 million a year, cost a half billion in the first year and topped a billion dollars before the state finally pulled the plug.
I watch craigslist for these vehicles and I've seen maybe two come up for sale in the last 5 years or so. They're out there, but I guess people are hanging on to them. All the conversion shops that popped up are now long gone out of business.

I know a guy who ranches south of Nogales, Sonora who has an old Ford pickup that runs on propane. He had it converted at a garage in Nogales and told me a couple of years ago that it cost about 600 bucks to convert. I guess with an older vehicle you could pop across the border, get it done and nobody'd be the wiser.

I know that the city of Dayton, Ohio had a LPG powered police fleet in the 1980's that were very reliable. DP&L, which used to handle the natural gas needs of the area before selling off to Vectren, had their entire fleet run off of it as well...I'm talking about the big trucks with cherry pickers all the way down tot he smaller cars.

I'd love to have a CNG or LPG powered vehicle. In Utah, I had considered converting one of our trucks over, but the cost was high there...about $2500. Without the national infastructure in place to handle the refueling needs of these vehicles, their practicality is mainly stuck to farms or certain areas that already have the ability to fuel them.

I watched an LPG fueled bus burn to the ground a couple of years ago. Bus rammed a stalled car on the freeway. Bus has a feature that vents gas out through an elevated pipe in the event of an accident. Oops, gas is heavier than air. Ka Boom.

Isn't nitrous an additional fuel rather than the only fuel? My school had a big natural gas conversion program back in the early 90's. Utilities around here were converting their trucks to run on it. School closed it when the instructor got in a car accident, hit is head, and lost his knowledge. I think natural gas conversion are more expensive as they require different kinds of tanks. Natural gas is safer though because it dissipates into the air instead of settling on the ground.

You are correct. If it was such a great transportation fuel, it would already be mainstream like gas and diesel. Also, don't forget about bridge and tunnel restrictions. Even propane tankers run on diesel fuel, that should tell you something.
