Snor'eastercane Frankenstorm "Hurricane Sandy"

Shaping up to be a doozy! Looks like I am going to get hit head on by the forecasts. I'll be parking my VW in a parking garage like I did for Irene. Anyone preparing/bracing?

The Baltimore Gas Electric Company has already begun to advise employees and Contractors to prepare for "storm duty" and maybe tens of thousands of outages.

"Storm Duty" is nearly 24/7 from the start of an incident to the end. It involves going to sites of downed wires, and simply preventing the public from getting near the downed wires until the repair crew show up.

No snow forecast for NYC as of now.

Guess I'll grab a full tank of diesel, park my car away from trees, fill up some bottles of water, and have some candles and non-perishable food around. I'm on the second floor of a brick building about 50 ft above the level of the East River. It's stood since 1911. Since I moved there 3 years ago, there's literally NEVER been a blackout. Not too worried.

I remember during last year's storm, a bunch of friends from NJ who did have blackouts got stuck in my apartment in NYC. Who knows, maybe it'll turn into a Halloweenocane party this year as well.

Stocked up on batteries and beer. Bring it on!

Might go scope out the trees in the back yard and park the minivan and my boat underneath the one that looks the weakest.

Just cold and rain here...possible a few flurries, but nothing major.

If anyone wants to escape it, I have a hide away in the living room and plenty of food...You'll, of course, have to cover the beer.

I'm pretty sure this is a map of the predicted tracks for this one storm.

Exclamation 50 Year redux?

If Sandi curves to the NW and hits So. Jersey, I'll be a'scared, I tell you.
N'oreaster, Full moon tides. Oh Brother. Water in the basement? Not a question of if, but how much.

Half block up from the shack and one block west facing west:
This end of town is in no shape for this.

April 2012....and today!!!

Note how high the old pilings are out of the sand.
The City has in the works a beach fill project for this area in November. Maybe they should double the order. ... or triple it!

I remember the '62 Storm and the carnage it caused. The home at 3:22 was my grandfathers. Spent many summer fun times in that house It sits there directly across from the beach. Two car underground garage filled with sand.

I had dinner Tuesday night with the owner of the big home at 3:25. Hadn't walked through that house in prolly 50 years.

1962

If this becomes a mega storm, I'm concerned. Very concerned.

I wish I could be as vague and uncertain( and wrong) in my job as the weatherman can be and still keep a job.

I've got 30 gallons of gas for the generator, about 10 bottles of beer, most of a 1.75 litre bottle of Stoli, plenty of dog & cat food, & plenty of toilet paper & water.
Some cans of soup & fresh apples & oranges.

Bring it on!

Perhaps he's being optimistic and expects power back within a few hours.

It was 80 degrees and sunny at my house today, but I always have 2 18 packs, several bottles of whiskey, and at least 3 cases of wine on hand just in case! Best of luck to all who may be affected.
