"D" word vs. "R" word

There is a recent thread about the use of the word "retard" being used by Ann Coulter to describe Obama, wherein there is much discussion and some violent bunching of panties about how Coulter using the word to describe Obama is hateful and offensive to people who exhibit diminished intellectual capacity and people who support them.

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/open-discussion/328023-coulter-gets-called-out.html

What once was clinically referred to as "developmental retardation" or "developmentally retarded" has been given a new kindler and gentler terminology of "cognitive disability" or "cognitively disabled". The old terminology has been declared "verboten" by some because it is argued that using such an unflattering descriptor in any negative way is an insult to everyone who is the embodiment of such a descriptor.

Using the descriptor "retard" is an insult and disparaging to those who actually are "cognitively disabled - formerly known as developmentally retarded" and no one who suffers from a condition they have been inflicted with due to reasons beyond their control should be disparaged in such a way, and everyone who doesn't agree and stand up for the victims of such disparagment is complicit in the hating.

Historically the word "dunce" has been used to describe slow learners, in today's politically correct language now referred to as "special needs or learning impared" and the "dunce cap" was once a fixture in education used to publicly identify and mock the "slow learners". Now you might think that the "slow learner" now referred to as "learning impared" community and its supporters would be decrying the use of the "dunce cap" descriptor imagery implication being applied to Obama's rival Mitt Romney. Because if we follow the logic that the use of unflattering descriptors in any negative way is equal to disparaging those among us who through no fault of their own may be the embodiment of such a descriptor must also be equally verboten!

Ann Coulter called Obama a "retard" and that is unacceptable and anyone who does not agree is perpetuating hate.

Obama's official campaign makes use of imagery that has Mitt Rimney wearing a "dunce cap" an obvious and blatant affront to the "learning impared" of today who have historically suffered public mocking and ridicule because through no fault of their own they where "slow learners".

Obama and his Obamphant horde scream in agony when he's called a "retard" and a couple days later Obama and his campaign officially call Mitt Romney a "learning impaired" dunce cap wearer!

It's obvious there are more than a few "learning impared" and their supporters who post in the Open Discussion, will the "cognitively disabled" and their supporters raise their voices rallying to the cause of their intellectually afflicted brothers and sisters in arms and denouce the hate and the Hater in Chief and all those who remain silent in the face of hate.

Is it finally time for society to draw the line in the sand demarcating what is unacceptable? Or does Obama get a pass on this also?

That isn't nice. The moderators have turned their back on the fact that you were previously banned, and you return the favor by insulting our Tea Party friends on the forum.

Three questions:

Why do you think that Joe Biden hasn't come out more forcefully to defend the "learning impared", particularly with that being his natural constituency?

Do you feel he's abandoned you?

Why do you violate the TOU attacking the forum moderation?

There is a reason this is in the open discussion and not a Mercedes thread.

Why is BB not banned yet? Not like it has not happened several times before?

Whatever.

There was a time when "idiot" and "moron" were accepted terms for professionals to use to describe individuals with reduced abilities. Once the general public learns of these words, they begin to use them in deragatory manners. Like the word "retard", what was once the common industry lingo becomes the insult. Another generation and school children will be calling each other "cogs" or "imps". The words change but the human nature does not.

Whatever.

It's all 5150...

Hi Phil.

How's the Cape in the fall? Last time I was up there after all the tourists departed, it was quite a nice visit. Personally, I like Provincetown, although you're a bit of a distance from there.

Oh, and Phil..........you're the one being intellectually dishonest...........yet again.

Considering such a valuable contribution to this thread I can't determine if you're representing the "cognitively disabled", the "learning impaired" or both? Irregardless you're doing a very fine job "representing"! I'll bet they're all proud of you!

Phil, just a tip for use in your next pseudonym: You tend to overuse exclamation points!

Thanks Phil.

Coming from a DB like yourself, I'm not sure I can take it as a compliment, however.

Actually. I have a few family members are the in fact mentally retarded. I dont use the word around them nor do I use it in public. It is hurtful to people. Just because other people have embraced widespread usage of the term does not mean I will too, but I am not going to make others not use it. Its their right to do as they please. Frankly, I think calling someone at the level of President such terms in such a clear derogatory fashion is just plain rude and wrong. I never referred to any of the previous presidents as such even though I disagreed.

You make no mention of how you feel about the official Obama Presidential Campaign in effect calling the next president a "dunce" ? No dunces or learning impaired in your family so it's not an issue for you?
