anyone on here got FaceTime?

The lovely Mrs engatwork purchased an iPad this past week and I've been trying to get up to speed on it. I don't like the idea that I have to put in a cc number to get free apps but that is just me. I'm impressed with the Facetime feature and we conversed with the step daughter on it last night. It seems like it could possibly be used as a very effective tool to show someone something in regards to car repair. For some reason I felt like I was watching one of those adult chat lines.

it's a great tool to see my kids while I'm away- which is nearly half the time.
My mom just got a apple and facetime was one of the primary reasons.

Note when you "purchase" an app it will call it that- a purchase. If the price of the app is zero- it's still called a purchase. Kinda hides it when you might have actually paid for one- mistakenly or not.

Yes I like reversing the camera so you can show something.

We have them for work though we have never had occasion to use the "facetime" feature yet. I'm sure it's worthwhile though as I use mine to do Skype calls to various relatives and friends in the UK, Canada and Australia and it works great. The reversible camera feature especially.

I use it all the time to talk to my parents in Alabama and my in-laws in Miami. It is great when you have kids to they can see who they are talking to.

We use Facetime all the time. It comes in real handy when the wife and kids are in Japan for the summer.

We used to use Skype, but have switched completely to Facetime.

Give them a pre-paid credit card with $1 balance.

Good idea, thanks.

If anyone ever wants to talk on it let me know and I'll turn it on and give you my email contact info. I can think of many ways that it can be handy in the shop.

I don't remember having to enter a CC number for a free app. When I think about it though, I gave my number for Foreflight, which is aviation software and is almost all that I use the IPad for. Maybe since I had done that, it allows me to get free apps. I thought that I was giving the number to Foreflight and not the app store.

Do you have a 3G or 4G account on it? I do not. I use WiFi for everything, but will tether to my IPhone if the need ever comes. Anyway, if you had a 3G or 4G account you would think that it would be enough tracability for downloading free apps.

I'm too far out to get 4G but do get 3G. I keep the wi fi box turned on in the house nowadays and just use it through that service.

Yeah, that's what I do, plus there is WiFi at even the dumpiest and most remote airports so that I can download latest weather before flight.

You're right on that one - cc goes toward the app store account and is stored for future purchases. If you order an app at cost it will charge the card on file.
