What to do with Sandy's waterlogged cars?

Notice the statement about today's cars having many more electronics on board, i.e. computers versus cars of yesterday. Try mixing water and electronics and what do you get? How many of these water-logged dogs will make their way to your local used car lot?

What *I* would do....

The image of flooded NYC taxis

~~~~~
What *I* would do is buy the WHOLE LOT of those P72 taxi package Crown Vic's, and the vans too, give them each a quick interior cleaning and an oil change, and a battery if needed, and ship them ALL in containers to Peru, and flip them for a huge profit to cash buyers in Peru.
You bet.
All the trucks, buses and cars in Japan, that fail smog and safety, what do you think happens to them? I will tell you what:
They get shipped across the Pacific by the boatload to Peru, and sold for $1500-$2500 apiece after big converted to LHD. It is pretty funny to see buses all over Peru with the Japanese writing still all over them.
Smog and safety checks in Peru, what's *THAT*? " ! No me tomes el pelo ! " mua hahahahahahaha
Last year when I was working at a dealership we had an ML that had been underwater in Katrina. It looked great and didn't smell. Getting it to start and stay running was a different matter.
The taxis will be cleaned and reused. The personal cars? Depends on the insurance co.
I'd be fine picking up my next project car as a flooded car-I'd be tearing it down anyway.
The roof lights are missing, and I think that NY taxis have to have a permitting mediallion affixed to the hood. I'm guessing that these cabs were semi-retired when they received their bath.
It could be that they are not a part of the New York Taxi livery.
I, too, noticed the lack of Medallions, so these are either new or destined for elsewhere.
But being purpose built for livery they may survive to function in another city or state with less regulation than New York.
Small operators are always looking to reduce costs, and these will have a 50% value in reduction at the very least.
They are going to ship those taxis to Cape Cod. Those folks don't mind a vehicle that runs intermittently. And, there are a couple of mechanics there that might be able to fix them.
