Bail Out vs BP Oil Spill.
BP pleads guilty to Gulf oil spill charges, agrees to pay record $4 billion – This Just In - CNN.com Blogs
Seems to me if you damage the worlds fiscal stability and award yourself as CEO $1.2 Billion whilst refitting the office to the tune of $1.3 mil, you get govment bail out....unless you live in Iceland. ....but, if you spill oil and affect 1/16 th of the working population and put up $23 billion in clean up out of you own money you get fined by the govment. Tell me i'taint so simple .

Definitely an interesting comparison...
I wonder how they arrived at the $23B figure though. It seems like there must be a lot of assumptions built around that amount. Personally, I feel the CEO and directors should all see some jail time, along with heavy financial penalties levied against them to set an example. IIRC, the CEO was busy competing in a sailing competition immediately after the spill, and he also made some ridiculous remarks downplaying this disaster. |
