Does anyone ride a scooter?
Don't laugh to hard haha I had a Honda spree when I was a teen and remembered how much fun it was so for my 40th bday this month I bought one
I found a 2012 piaggio typhoon 125 cc that has 600 miles and sold new for about $3100. The guy I bought it from realized scooting in dunwoody (atl) ga was just to scary for him so he let it go for $1800. He had its first service at 450 miles for a staggering $184 Hi dollar oil change! The bike is perfect with nary a scratch. I have not ridden in years so I am realizing I got some work to do before I ride... Got to get a motorcycle license, insurance, tag and of course safety equipment. Luckily my neighbor wHo is 72 has a new ninja 1000. he sold me a helmet for $20 so I got 2 feet in the door now Anyone else here ride? What you got? Any handy tips other than WATCH THE HELL OUT and don't get killed.

I've never owned one, but I rented a Piaggio in France last summer, and I'm tempted to buy something vintage and Eye-talian to tool around next summer. I really don't give a damn about projecting a masculine image and think that mods are cuter than leathermen/women anyway.

my experience is limited to old vespas with the left hand twist gear select and clutch action, 200cc 2 stroke.
in the US - specially in tx I would not try to ride that, too many blind drivers around

I always rode motorcycles but I'd love to have a Vespa Super Sport 180. Being that there's several colleges around here, there are quite a few scooters of all sorts on the road.

I've got a Yamaha Jog (50cc) and it is one of the most fun vehicles to ride that I own.

While I'll admit to not quite getting the appeal of the scooter, it's still a two wheeled conveyance powered by an internal combustion engine. In other words, congratulations, you're a motorcyclist! Plenty of safety tips here:

I have a 49cc moped. I got it for my annual trek to the AACA Fall meet at Hershey where my camping location is 2 miles from the flea market. I have been using a bicycle for years, but I see more and more of my fellow campers going motorized.
Problem is, Maryland just re-classified mopeds. They, and scooters now require registration, insurance, and drivers must wear head and eye protection. I protested this change before it became law, as mopeds are little more than a motorized bicycle. However, some stupid scooter driver ran a red light and crashed into a MD state legislator, and had no insurance. The legislator got her revenge by lumping mopeds in with the far heavier, and more powerful scooters. So I can use it at Hershey, but not at home unless I go thru the process. About 30 years ago, I tried using a moped as a daily commuter vehicle. Since my office was located on US 1, ( VERY busy highway in the Baltimore area!) I had to drive that route in the predawn hours. Three days of that convinced me that it was not a good idea.

Ever around a city as avant-garde (?) as Cincinnati, I've seen a few 'scooter riding clubs' ("mopedarmy"? "Scooter Mafia"?) - and they roll in big groups on a weekly or periodic basis. I'm sure that some of them are like some motorcycle groups (more posturing than riding...*some* motorcycle groups at least...) but if you are concerned about safety the group ride seems to be a better way to go. Look around your local internet/college/Hipster boards
These groups also sometimes advertise tech sessions- not sure how skilled you are with wrenching on small 2-strokes - I'd attend one of those just to see how skilled the group is (maybe you could teach them something...) As a 750/650cc motorcyclist - I say grab that throttle and whack it ! 2 wheels is always the more fun way to go -John

If we're to believe the inverse peepee size:vehicle size ratio, it's a wonder those scooter folks aren't constantly running over themselves.
