A simple act of kindness
For anyone who thinks all police officers are jerks, check this out.

I saw that item on the news. The sad thing is that it is adequately unusual such that it makes it onto the news.

what are the chances that it was a setup?
a shoeless guy just happens to sit in front of a shoe store. chances are the whole thing was legit but I can't help but wonder if it was truly a coincidence. regardless- feeding a hungry person, giving shoes to a shoeless guy...is a good thing....bravo to the nypd cop

Just another example of that bad attitude constantly displayed by New Yorkers....

Of course there's always that chance, but I don't think it's true in this case. I saw a quick clip of the lady who accidentally observed the event and captured it on video. In today's world with so many people carrying video cameras in their pockets as part of their IPhone or facsimile, I think it is for real. Might be difficult to confirm that 100% though, just my opinion based on what I've seen about it. I like to believe in the better side of mankind and my wife and I have done a few things like this ourselves. Last Christmas my wife bought a coat for our son that didn't fit. There was a fellow on a road that we frequently travel that seems quite underpriviledged. We stopped and gave him the brand new coat rather than returning it to the store. We have done things like this a number of times over the years and it's quite gratifying.

Not all police are jerks. It's the 10% that are that give the other 90% a bad name.
(And I don't see NYPD as being better or worse than other PD's, for the record -- just subject to more media attention, so when they do mess up, it ends up being rather spectacularly public.) |

Yes, I believe that there are many cops, I would like to think MOST cops that really do believe in serving the public.
