I was outside today and noticed

I was hearing some bird noises, kindof a churriping, sort of constant. I looked around thinking some birds were roosting but then realized there were not. I looked up and about a mile up was a flock of about 200 sandhill cranes. I stood and stared for a couple of minutes then walked on toward my house. I noticed more sounds and looked up again and there was another group of maybe 100 flying maybe 2 miles up.

Amazing birds....flying south too.

Thanks for sharing Tom! I'm glad you got to enjoy the experience. I've never seen cranes, but I live not too far from a large Snow Geese preserve and enjoy seeing Geese go over quite a bit. About 20 years ago when I began flying, one day I flew above flock after flock of Geese. It's a video in my mind that I wish I could share with others.

Cool! They come over my place regularly....I mean directly over because with my trees I cannot see very far laterally.

I also have seen them in fields regularly straight north of here near a big fish and wildlife area near the intersection of 8 and 421.

I've been hearing them arrive here for the last couple weeks. Such a cool prehistoric sound they make!

Its rather serene. I tried to imagine how much energy it takes them to fly and honk at the same time. Are they communicating or just making happy noises?

Looks like one of those lines flys right over my place and another one goes over CLK's. I have not seen them but I am stuck in the office during most daylight hours. We do get a huge number of small birds and when I have the feeders full even more!
Just found out this evening I have another squirrel again. He kinda walked up on where I was working on the 190 for a minute then realized I was a people and did a vanishing act. Gonna have to keep him outta the bird food.
