Maybe it was $13,000 overpriced to begin with

With $13,000 off Chevy pickups, deals pushing December auto sales to the redline | Motoramic - Yahoo! Autos

a pickup truck is much easier to make than a car anyway (half the seats, half the doors). they should be cheaper than cars in my view.

Problem is that Americans don't want a TRUCK. They want a land yacht that looks like a pickup truck. Hence the price and feature creep.

I agree! It's charge what the market will bear. SUV's and pick ups are clearly the money makers for the US auto makers these days.

Buying power of the dollar is in the crapper. If you worked and saved a dollar in 1970 you screwed up. You should have spent it back then. Now you have to earn about $15.00 to buy what that dollar would have gotten you.

The BS about the minimum wage is just that. $10/hr now, ha, take it in peanuts if they will give it you.

IF the truck does nothing more than haul wood from Point A to Point B and that distance is a few miles, you would be fine with a stripped down truck. OTOH, if it has to be a daily driver in addition to hauling a payload, be it a boat or just some odd stuff or go any distance regularly, why would you want a vehicle that has no creature comforts? If my truck serves as a car from time to time, why get one with no creature comforts? Why does a truck have to be an uncomfortable thing?

Isn't the frame stronger, unless it is one of the "crossdressers" or crossover things?

Because I'm not a 300 lb prissy-ass kathoey. Actually, creature comforts are fine, but why can't you get a truck with rubber "hose down" interior easily anymore? Mud + carpet = f'en disaster.

Why 300#? Why not 400, 200 or 100? What has the weight go to do with anything? Besides, the word you might use is "Masochist" or as Sgt Petersen in the John Wayne movie Green Berets said to Sgt Muldoon "I'm not a Marine. I believe in my comfort.". I'm a sadist, NOT a masochist.

Fat American porkmuffins tend to have bad joints and thus need more comfort.

Because most people want their comfort. As such, they don't order those features or lack of. If you were GM, would you run a bunch of those that you might not sell? I wouldn't. A company is not there to serve everyone. It is there to make money and if the money is in that direction, they go there. If they tried to be everything to everyone, they would go broke.

So trim people have no need for comfort and should shun them? Seriously?

Why would anybody, regardless of weight or illness, choose discomfort? Even animals know how to get a more comfortable situation instead of sitting out in the cold if they had the choice. So are those animals also Fat American porkmuffins now or are you just spouting crap?

So since you are not a Fat American porkmuffin or a prissy-ass kathoey, whatever that is, why don't you show us how manly you are? Strip off your car to bare bones. Engine and transmission. Sit on a wood box, no AC or heat. Tough it out like a real man that you think you are and drive around that way. After a year, tell me you don't miss your comfortable seat and heat during the winter.

Drive a car like but take out the cushion first and see how it feels. No sitting at home during the coldest winter days either.

1885 Benz Motorwagen: Cool ride, but a little slow for my tastes.

There's nothing I need in the way of "creature comforts" that can't be found in a 1932 Ford, or for that matter, the very basic 1990 International Paystar I used to drive. It had AC, but that came with the armor kit, since you couldn't open the windows to get airflow. Silly little issues with snipers and IEDs and such.

pickups mosty have a frame, crossovers often are unibody as all cars are now.

The old vw pickup and the little front drive ram pickup and some of the elcaminos of the same era are unibody, but that is all that comes to mind at the moment.

I am not sure why trucks still have the frame....simplicity in offering different motors, beds, etc?

One of the reasons pickups are cheap is minimal safety requirements compared to cars.

You just described all but one of the trucks I've bought over the years. My current truck is a 4X4, short bed, regular cab, V8, five speed manual. It's a 2000 model and was hard to find in that configuration.

It has wind up windows, rubber mats, cloth seats, no pushbutton locks or any of that stuff. It DOES have a cruise control and a manual climate control air conditioner.

My kind of truck! Keep It Simple Stupid(KISS.)

BTW, what REALLY makes me a wierdo around here is that I only use the truck when I need a truck. I'm about one of three people in the county who don't think that they need a four door, dually one ton 4X4 to get them back and forth to work. Wait a minute, I just described what they use it for, not why they bought it. They bought it as a status symbol, except for some of them who actually NEED such a truck, in which case it's obvious why they bought it.
