I have a social dilemma.

In light of the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary, I am aware of another potential situation. Not right now but possibly years from now.

I know this kid (currently 13) who lives with his grandparents. The grandparents basically raised the kid from birth. The parents are both doctors (MD's) who had to pass on the kids to the grandparents when they had to finish medical school (in different places). After medical school, the kid wanted to stay with the rich grandparents. The parents are now divorced. The kid is very angry at the parents (for obvious reasons) and the grandparents basically spoil the kid.

The kid has been kicked out of 3 elementary schools for behavioral issues. The grandparents are rich enough to hire private tutors to come everyday. One of the reasons the kid stopped going to the second school was because there were too many blacks and mexicans at the public school. He was already kicked out of the only private school in town.
The last school was a public charter school.

When the news of Sandy Hook became public, the grandmother got really worried about the kid. She hid all the potential weapons in the house (knives, forks, etc) and she did not want to leave the kid unattended or alone in a room. She obviously feels that the kid is unstable.

I can really see this kid going postal years from now but what can I do? The grandparents basically cater to this kid. For example, they put up their fake Christmas tree in the house, when the kid saw that it was fake, he threw a tantrum and insisted on a real one. The fake went down and they went shopping for a real tree. Crap like that goes on all the time.

this is beyond what a regular spoiled kid is. My biggest fear is this kid will grow up to be a recluse (he already is) and goes postal like Lanza. Is there anything I can do? I am not really tight with the grandparents to start giving advice (not that I would know what to say anyway).

Thanks for listening.

MYOB. Mind Your Own Business.

They decided to spoil the kid and not have him institutionalized or leave him as a ward of the state or whatever it is they can do to get rid of him so whatever happens, happens.

After all, what are YOU going to do about it? You cannot discipline the brat if the parents allow him to be that way. All you can do is make sure you are not around when it happens. Only a 22 cal to the head can fix the kid. Thankfully it is not my problem nor yours.

at this ooint....;.

I am mildly astonished that nobody here has yet suggested that everyone else who could come into contact with this miscreant go right out there and buy more guns and ammo to protect themselves.

Like, what are you supposed to DO???!!

Like, YOU should call 911 when the shooting or whatever it is he does start and hope the clowns get to you from the Donut Store before he does.

You cannot help someone who does not want it.

It is like the old joke about how many Head Shrinkers does it take to change a light bulb. The answer is one, but the light bulb has to want to change.

Depends on your fantasy, I suppose. Friend of mine called the cops. They came and shined their lights on his car. 2 guys were there and they slowly exited. Cops didn't want to go further since all they were probably taking was the stereo and they might have guns. Not worth it in their opinion.

In my case, I called them and told them that among the things taken was a cell phone. Madison cops didn't want to track the phone. I called the phone company and found the number they called after they stole it. Gave it to the worthless clowns and they said they couldn't do much. I had to track it back to the father of the thieves before they would go arrest them. WTF? Might as well give me their badge and I take my gun and go arrest the clowns. Call the cops? Thanks but no thanks. All they are good for is filing my police reports so I can claim insurance.

I have no use for them besides that. Frankly, calling them pigs is a complement since pigs have some useful purpose while they do not do much, IMO. So yes, speed dial the donut shop but if it involves getting their uniform crinkled or their hair messed up, nothing much will happen.

And if they did, they would be able to find the way to make the change.

Ah, but you cannot predict how long it will take or if it will ever get done. Such is the nature of psychology. Thanks but no thanks.

seen the same **** here. buddy of mine caught a gun breaking into the toolbox on his truck, placed him under citizens arrest and called the cops. they told him turn the guy free since he didnt steal anything.

when my truck got broken into in my drive way, they wouldnt send anyone out. i was told they will call me withing 8 hours to make a report.

on the original subject, if they wont push to have him evaluated, theres nothing you can do. in the future tho, dont be so quick to assume theyre gonna be the next mass murderer

BenH - how about this ?

maybe keep your distance from him, but keep an eye out - if he ever calls for help (suicide attempt ?) it might be possible for you to (metaphorically) be there for him, or be the parent that he never had/is looking for. Is it probable that he will call your phone wanting to come over a talk ? of course not, but the least you can do is be friendly/cordial/approachable.

or...

Keep your own guns (if any?) locked away from him so your stuff doesn't get tangled in any mess that he makes.

Why? Why get involved in such an indivudual? As if life weren't complicated enough. If he wants to off himself, lend him a copy of "The Final Exit". Getting involved in such a person has no upside and plenty of problems that could come out of it. Best leave it alone or call someone else who cares.

By your side is better.

I this case if you interfere you might become a target of both the Grand Parents and the Kid.

And, it would be difficult to get the Kid procesucetd if He did something to you.
