Put one on the 35 year old log splitter last summer. Starts a heck of alot better than the original Briggs ever did; until the temps drop below 20 degrees. I have have it in the woodshed for the last few weeks. Put the heat gun on the head (near the spark plug) for 5 minutes or so then on the carb for a bit, full choke and it reluctantly comes to life. Over 30 degrees and it take just one pull - just like a honda.

Those are highly regarded over at MTF. The only issue is that something with a cowling over it that used a Briggs or Tecumseh engine may have fitment issues due to the slanted cylinder. Otherwise pretty tough, and decently well built for a cheap Chinese engine.

they are copies of the honda gc160 series. they are pretty good for the money.
what are you mounting it on? the traditional problem has been spare parts but now there are internet vendors that sell chonda (chinese honda) parts now so go for it. post a pic of the final product!

I have been running a vertical HF honda knockoff on a mower for two full seasons or so. No problems. Some inconvenience with matching control cables, etc.
I consider it a throw away. I'll do the routine, preventive stuff. If it needs repair it will get replaced and recycled. I bought a horizontal engine for another mower but haven't mounted it yet. It's a big heavy Yazoo mower like a bushog. Maybe when the yard grows again. |

I have one on my old snowblower. Two seasons and no issues.
BTW, I don't think you can use the 20% off on things like engines anymore. Used to be a steal. Still a good deal but not as much of a steal.

If you're talking one of these:
That's actually intended to be mounted on the front of a Sears Suburban tractor. It goes in the mule drive slot and a belt is routed from the engine down around the pair of small pulleys then up to the generator. I'll trade you an Onan 4.5kw RV generator for that, if it's what you have. |

sorry but everyone and their AU cattledog have a spare rv onan sittin around, I do know of an old guy with a vintage onan 50's in its mounting rig powered by a 4 cyl continental red seal engine, Im thinking of trying to trade him some gear for it.

Just because it came up from CA with my wife's Aussie...........
I'm just always looking for Sears tractor attachments, they are an extremely useful tractor. I'm actually going to put the Onan generator out in my garage with the remote panel next to the door so I can just hit the switch on the way in and have power. |
