Rifle optics...
Trijicon Accupoint 3-9X40, Mil-Dot Crosshair and LT104-1 Mount | LaRue Tactical
I think I found the optic I'm going to put on my AR build. I want something I can take out to 600 yards but I can still use closer in. Trijicon has gotten some great reviews from this series of scope, supposedly it competes against European scopes that cost 3 times as much.

This is a DMR so I'm not going to use a HOLO on it.
An Aimpoint CompM4 is on the list though for the Sig and if I can another AR I'd like to buy set up as a carbine.

Yes the M855 round was designed to penetrate a Kevlar at 600 meters.
That's an old load, the new MK262 allows affective engagement to 700 meters. Also something like a modern TSX round is extremely capable of retaining lethality after passing threw brush and cars. The 5.56 has come a long way since Vietnam, and the old M193. The Marines are moving over to the MK318 SOST round which is extremely affective. Also remember I'll be firing these out of a 20in barrel with a 1:8 twist and polygonal rifling so I'll be getting over 3k fps out of all of them. Compared to the military standard of 14.7 inch's.

That said, I was quite an M14 bigot at the time for long range work. With an M14 I could hit a human profile target at 350 meters almost every time. My eyes were a few years younger at the time though.

The M14 while a great rifle is obsolete. Replaced by a slew of AR10's but that's not really doing something like an SR25 or HK417 justice, or the FN Scar 17. AR's in general have come a long way, they are just about the most reliable carbine you can buy. Spend 40 years improving a design and it gets pretty good. AR-15 Rifle Kits For example the army didn't and still doesn't have stuff like this. You can wipe this bolt and carrier dry than pump 3k rounds threw it in a weekend with nothing but a wipe off with a rag every night. Being able to run a lube less bolt is a big advantage in the desert or cold climates...

The only M14 I ever fired was what was available at the time. Same goes for the M16. I have no experience with the newer ones, so the comparison in my mind is between the two that were available ca. '68 to '71. Of those two, I preferred shooting the M14, although in the jungle, the M16A1 was the more practical choice, mainly due to the weight of the weapon and more importantly, the weight of the ammo. It is interesting reading about the evolution. Thanks for starting the thread!
