As someone who worked a number of years for tips, I can honestly say making 60K a year serving 3 dollar lunches is not possible.
As the OP says, if you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat out.

most people are not up on the history behind leaving a tip for a waiter or waitress. seems a certain group of restaurant owners that was known to be C-H-E-A-P figured out early on that they could pay the waiters and waitresses two bux an hour while coercing the diners into paying "tips". That way, they got out C-H-E-A-P for food delivery service and the sap sucker diners were duped into paying extra for "service". It is still that way to this day, most waiters and waitresses receive SLAVE wages whilst the diners pay the tab in the form of "tips".

Pretty good deal for the restaurant owner, huh?

Just one MORE reason to despise organized religion.
