That black truck looks like one of those I've been asking about. Wonder what they are doing with all those gas cans?

Better to be missing teeth, than missing a member.

I'll tell you a better way than gun registration to control crime: go out right now and arrest everyone with a middle name that's either Wayne, Ray or Lee and throw their a$$es in the slammer forever. That one action would remove about 99% of the criminal population from the street.

This guy was well over the edge. There was no rational left. Social isolation can do strange things.

I could not see myself doing what he did no matter how sick I became. There is just something in my being that is just too adverse to it.

Certainly I could engage other forms of irrational behaviours if sick. I think in this case they might have been very lucky to get the boy back.

I suspect there is either much better media exposure or we are getting more wackos out there now. If it is media exposure a law or understanding to severly limit coverage the same as suicides get little play by mutual understanding.

It is all too well known that some of these things act in a contagious fashion. The more media exposure to the general population the more people come forward with simular behaviours. Somehow the excess media exposure seems to get more of the wacos active.

I know people with guns for example that are far from stable. It would not take much to get them doing things that are less than desirable. That is why the courts up here in Canada take away gun ownership rights and confiscate their guns in a lot of cases as part of the sentance.

In the US convicted felons can not legally purchase a gun but I doubt that this prevents them from getting them in many cases. After all, they have already proven their disrespect for the law.

Blaming the media is like blaming the gun for the killing.

"The 65-year-old man who took Ethan hostage and engaged the FBI in a standoff wanted to get on TV and show how important he was, that he was the boss, sources tell Michael Daly." The Daily Beast

It seems to me that in general, US society seems to be producing more unstable or anti-social people. When I began teaching at the college level 25 years or so ago, it was pretty rare to encounter a student who, as a result of fundamental anti-social attitudes, required a teacher to seek help from administration. Now, it is not unusual. In fact, just this week, I learned of a long time colleague who simply was forced to quit due to the stress caused by inadequately socialized students. I don't know how to get any objective measure of this, apart from violent incidents on the part of such people, but I think behind those well-publicized incidents is a broader problem.

This is very sad to read, but unfortunately it does not surprise me.

From where I sit, it is the societal decadence that has been going on for many years. Morality is going to hell. Drug usage has drastically increased. More children are raised by a single parent.

I really don't understand how we could expect to see anything different. A changing society produces a change in people within the society.
