Airport short truck
Does anyone know anything about these? I remember seeing them everywhere (airportwise) in the 80's. I always got a little bit of a laugh out of them. From time to time now I'll see one out on the street, I imagine the airlines sold them off.
Does anyone know what they're called? What they were used for? Why I want one? Anything about them? MV Last edited by BAVBMW; 02-08-2013 at 02:45 PM. |

Looks like an aircraft (or luggage cart) tug.

Looks like a Chevy with a 3" driveshaft and a Jeep wheelbase, a great combination for around town fun

The reason you want one is that you have not hippity hopped down the road in one. In its modifed state it is meant for driving about 15 miles an hour over a very smooth tarmac. It will probably be almost uncontrollable on the highway, if it is even legal for the highway.
I do agree that they have a certain eye appeal though.

That looks like it would be pretty nifty! Would be awesome for moving trailers in tight spaces!
And BTW, I like option number 4 on the poll. I haven't had one of those, and wouldn't know where to even look for one!

New poll option: Because perpendicular parking a truck is boss.

There are normally several of these for sale during the month at Government Surplus Auctions at Government Liquidation. There are a few of then on there now; Dodge trucks with 6-cyl diesels.
They also have some aircraft for sale right now. Cargo planes and fighter jets that need to be cut up for scrap, but also some Cessna's and a Piper or two. |

I wonder how much the aircraft will go for (starting bid $150) and how much they can be re-sold for...

I was wondering the same about the military trucks. I know I've seen the site posted on here a number of times, anyone actually pulled the trigger on anything?

I've certainly seen them used for that, but there are dedicated tugs also. I've seen them used just as runabouts, and I want to say I've seen them with snowplow mounts as well. I'm just thinking that there must be a good reason to have them, something that justifies the added cost over a standard pickup.

Also, that thing would be so neat for rallycross or something.

The more I look at that truck I wonder how it could have room for rear suspension. It would not surprise me if the rear axle is mounted solid like a farm tractor. That would make for a hippity hop down the highway.
