My friend called me a couple of hours ago wondering if I could get out because his 4wd Suburban with pretty good AT tires on it is stuck down the road from my house and he can't get out of his driveway since its private, long, and won't get plowed for awhile. He wanted me to check on it but I'm just as stuck as he is.

So if a 4wd Suburban can't cut it...unless you have a jacked up rig nothing moves in 30in of snow...well a Humvee or Unimog probably will.

No conventional vehicle can move through 30". The vehicle would very quickly push a huge mound of snow ahead of the bumper and that will stop it real quick.

At about 42", the weight is so great that it will stop a snowplow unless the blade is angled.

A Unimog could do it but it isn't exactly a conventional vehicle. It still has it's limits though....until you slap a snow blower on the front

Maybe it was for the best -- as far as Long Island, they should NOT care about damage to the cars, get the biggest plow truck they can find, and push the stupid goats' cars off the road. You drive like a putz in snow or come unprepared with chains, explain it to your insurance company.
Until we have the stones to craft a law that says "Your stupidity, your peril", the public will always be on the hook for your idiocity. As such officials like this get to dictate how to save a few bucks. Now, which lawmaker will have the stones to propose such a law? Assuming we find such a brave soul, how many people will back it?

I like that second one!!
Man, that is a serious blower attachment.
Friend of mine in CO has an old Unimog w/snowblower that he bought from a rural airport in Nebraska.
Snowblower is about 4 1/2' high with 3 rows of blades.
Incredible to watch it eat snow.

But say you have that vehicle that can, what now? You can't go shopping since nobody will be out and the stores are closed. You can't go dining since restaurants are going to be closed. Entertainment? See above. Best you can do is visit your friends and show off how deep a snowfall you can go in. Sometimes, these things are like having sex with a sibling. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Hummer H1; 30 inches of snow - YouTube
Humvee's have a lot of weight and torque along with pretty good gearing and the ability to adjust your tire pressure on the fly. So they do pretty well.

Affective? You have some affection for the machine? How long have you and the machine been seeing each other? Is it serious? If they can legalize gay marriage, maybe someday you and the machine can get married? Bet the intake sucks like there is no tomorrow.

I dealt with snow emergencies, among other types of emergencies, for over 40 years and I never knew of one of them that was put in place without a good reason.

In some states you can be arrested if you are on the road during a snow emergency, and more than once I have had to swear that I was indeed dealing with a situation that involved a risk to human life and/or real property.

This comes under the heading of making a false statement to a Police Officer if there is no real emergency. And the Cops know if it is real because they will escort you to the site of the emergency and make a determination.

When an emergency is declared it is the real deal. I had unlimited funds to deal with our emergencies, and there were several where it was decided to suspend operations because there was really no solution that money could buy. Suspending operations, when that is costing a few hundred thousand bucks an hour, is not something you ever want to do. It is something you have to do, just like when the airlines suspend flights.

That anyone would have a problem with this is just an indication that they don't live in the real world. Even with the unlimited funds at my command (if necessary I could have blown Billions, but I would have had to get approval from a higher up for anything over $5 million) I could not stop time, alter the orbits of the planets or control the weather.

And the bottom line to all of this is: I had to defer to any Civil authority. You see, there are these things called laws, and..........

Hattie is a very sensitive guy. He's affected by such a machine............

However, his affection for it might cease once he saw what the machine did to his driveway.

Leave it to Mr. Lim.....if it's diesel-powered, you better believe it sucks hard on the intake!
