This is forum members car as I have seen it many times before on other sites. This is thing is crazy fast as the standard CL65 puts down 600+BHP. I believe there are videos floating around somewhere if I recall.

Almost like a bullet coming out of a gun

love that CL model. I can only imagen controlling that kind of power, must be like emptying a Desert Eagle .50 caliber in my apartment.

To be fair to this gun forum, I'd compare it to a 454 Casull

Tempting car, but I don't want to toss $2k/yr at a car. Also, in a few yrs it'll be worth like $15k

I wouldn't take it for free. First of all -- I don't believe there was a "Black series" AMG coupe for the w140. So, to start then, the car is "up-badged" as a black series AMG when it is nothing of the kind in reality.

But worse:

2000 to 2009 are the "dark" years for S Class Mercedes Benz build quality, QC durability and reliability. It is wildly over complicated with dual pane glass, soft close dooors and the like, an incredibly trouble prone automobile.

And this one is right in the middle.

I met the man who traded in a 2002 version of the CL for my Outback - the salesman who took that CL as a trade in on my car, which the guy bought (MY 2011 Outback) AND sold the same salesman my trade in a few weeks later at the Mercedes Benz dealer.

The buyer traded in this CL with over $3200 diagnosed electrifcal problems, that weren't worth fixing. (The salesman told me) These w140s were notorious for them.

And it's ugly.

And not only that, the wheels look like black steelies after all the plastic hubcaps dropped off -- exactly like happens to the plastic hubcaps on the bottom of the line Toyota Corolla's.

Plus - it's an intrinsically ugly looking coupe, by virtue of it's styling and design..

I owned an 03 S600. Quality wise it wasn't any worse than my 123, 126 or 210. Every series has their issues. When cars get more complex, more can go wrong.

This is not a W140 but a W220. And according to the seller it's not a LA car so it should be save to own.

Great car but if it breaks...its like $10k to fix.

Remember its an exotic car, with exotic car pricing for repairs...like in the ebay add 4,300 for brakes...

Other than that, buy it and have fun, post a Youtube vid of a top speed run.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d93ni8_dspM
Must be this car, cause their are not many of these around...

I'd love to get a CL600 eventually but right now I have a big hard on for the 2013 Audi S8...

You asre right, it is a w220; but i stand by my other remarks, the QC andf related problems are really trouble with these.

Lots of w220 cars are fine, but there's a good chance an equal number will be a horror.

No reason to roll the dice on one.

I wouldn't want to own any luxury car made after 2000 without a warranty, unless its a base E or C class.

Their is a reason most people lease high end cars, let the dealers fix them when they break...or only keep them to the end of the warranty period.

Anything before that is simple enough to fix yourself, like the W140.

My God this post is just mindblowing... First we are talking about a C215 not a W140 body. This car shown is a C215... Second a 02 CL is not anywhere near as well bult as the 05/06 CL's. I know this for a fact and also its post facelift. Third if someone goes from a CL to a Subaru the chances are they cannot afford the upkeep and just wanted to play big shot on a Subaru budget. The badge has 0 to do with how reliable or well made a car is. It was poor choice by the owner thats all. Many 05/06 CL55/65 owners are very happy with reliablility. Much more so then the pre facelift. A member on mbworld has a 04 CL55 with 140K on it and has not had any ABC issues ever with it. Not bad for a car so advanced with technology. Every car is a luck of draw. You have to pay to play and because its used does not mean upkeep and cost go down. If anything they go up.

Yep, gotta pay to play.

If one finds an ad for a an exotic car with a relatively low entry-fee and then find themselves worrying over repair bills, it's not for them.

+1. Also, sometimes it can be the reverse. Why is it my 00 C280 was a basic car and unreliable car all the time buy yet take the 96 SL600 we had that was 100% perfect. Like anycar its always a luck of the draw.

You got it brother. I have seen this over and over again. Best one is when I had 16 year old come in to my indi shop when I was getting a oil change. Has a 99 s500 his parents got for him that needed some work.(About $2,000 or so) You should of seen him get upset when they paid the bill. Keep in mind the parents drove Toyota and Ford... For them a oil change is sub $100 or so. Our great service writer told them "Did you simply buy a car just to make your child look cool?" after they argued the bill. You should of seen their faces. Point in case its like anything in life. Buy what you can afford.
