Truly self parking Audi.....

Biertijd.com // Media » CES 2013 - Audi Piloted Driving

Pretty cool stuff. Obviously still in development but getting close. Can only imagine if the machine goes postal and starts taking joy rides while the owner is shopping or at work

The last time Audi built a car that could accelerate by itself it didn't turn out so well.........

OK, that is very cool. The lady did not say if the structures were pre-maped our not but if it can sense structures and parking spots on it's own then that is very very neat.

I can see this being desirable from a safety stand point. The car comes to to you verses you having to go to it in a dark or deserted structure.

Yay for even more isolation from the world! Pretty soon, the average person will not have to go outside or walk at all. Looking forward to the future of a society of 400 lb lard-ass porkers who go from the house to the rolling cage, to the office. Oink-oink, WHEEEEEEEEEE!

Me, I'll take a good, fast motorcycle over a self-driving rolling isolation chamber. And remember, that the fewer people step foot outside their glass and steel cages, the LESS safe the streets become. Self-fulfilling prophecy.

Not looking forward being behind one of those slow driving self parking Audi's...parking rage with no one but the car too rage against.

Would be a perfect solution for the Venice Whole Foods parking lot.

Soon cars will do it all. And we will say " How did we ever get by without self-driving cars?"

How did a vehicle that parks itself result in a post that again rails against the ills of society as seen by Spud?

You're going to die a miserable old man if you keep this up.

I have some of your thoughts as well, but I must temper them if I am to survive in this society.

Your alternative is Antarctica..........not NYC.

I just spent 5 minutes typing and then deleting multiple responses to spudran's response and couldn't seem to find the words that you just elegantly responded with. I am sure I would have received infractions for my post as it would have been viewed by some as a diatribe but to others as bliss. I hope there is hope for some after all.

NY is tolerable exactly because it goes against a lot of the fearful, isolating trends of current American society.

Because nobody in their right mind plans to regularly drive in Manhattan?

Precisely. The fewer people imprison themselves in their cars, the more opportunity for serendipity.

Here's a serendipity measuring tool. My home measures 95. I'm curious as to how other people measure up. I think I'll start a thread on it.
