Yes, the wake turbulence is quite an issue with such close intervals, but since they are the same size aircraft, it's not nearly as dangerous as if a smaller craft were in the wake. It would easily flip over a smaller aircraft and drive it into the ground.
Thanks for posting this Hat. It was fun to watch. |

It's cool but China prolly has $75 missles that can take down any B52. Prolly got the basic design from the US. Paid for with US tax dollars that won't be repaid for 162 years, with interest only ten zeros or so.

Cool....about 15 to twenty second takeoff intervals.

The wingtip vortices do not develop until the wing starts making lift. One would assume that they all make lift at about the same point on the runway. If there is a little crosswind, it will blow the vortices off the runway before the next plane reaches that point.
You would think that they would be taking this all into account as the sequence the planes. |
We used to see these operations around here years ago when Carswell was a SAC base. On a calm day, it would take several hours for the smoke schmutz to clear. I lived about 25 miles west of the base at the time. It sounded like a low level thunder that lasted for 20 minutes or so.

Watching the takeoff of what was it 20 planes? I pondered how many dollars worth of fuel was being expended for the practice run?

The aircraft would come right over the top of the building. You could read what was written on the sides. A new elementary school was built about 20 years ago, but all they did was move it to just out of the way. A new high school was built, but it was built about two miles away. To see this set-up just Google Fort Worth and look at the air base on the south side of Lake Worth. Then go due north of the runway and look for the school building. I am sure it is still very loud to the kids there, but at least they don't have to worry about one of those things dropping in on them like they once did. |

That's why many of the B-52's have been modified to carry six cruse missiles that can launch from 600 miles away from their targets. And then land within three meters of their target. |

There hasn't been any B-52 action for years. Just an occasional new F-16 delivery or some FA-18's playing around. C-130's shooting landings, etc. Carswell always struck me as not really a good place for B-52's as it is not really very big, and is sort of down in a hole, not to mention being in the middle of town. |
They must have pencil type rather than loop type glow plugs :)
