V12 is the main reason other then being a Ferrari that it cost so much to service. A 348/F355 and 360 are more realistic to live with. Also, you have to remember a Ferrari dealer will rape you on the per hour. My indi shop will service a Ferrari for $80.00 per hour.

Agreed! Do you remember way back in the 90's when the Ford Taurus alternator's would go out and needed to be replaced it was a engine out job.

Yes, like the 1975 V8 Monza's for spark plug replacement.

Timing belt costs more than a dollar a mile to run.

I doubt that he is kidding. I have read several such repair bills over the years. It goes more to the mindset of the person paying the bill than to the person writing it. There are some people with such automobiles, that to begin with think that there is only one shop in their five state region capable of changing oil and filter.

To further that mindset, they approach it as if it were an aircraft, replacing every small part, or big part for that matter, that has to be unbolted to effect the actual repair being performed.

When the shop is done with a relatively routine repair, they have billed the customer for new bolts, brackets, castings and covers to a point that is unbelievable.

How do you think a small numbers car manufacturer survives and affords such lavish running.

Yep. The oil filter alone is anywhere from $75-$100!

Hell, an oil change on the 4200 in my sig is just under $200.

Not sure if this is true but I heard that the cost of an oil change for a specific Ferrari model, forgot what Ferrari it was, is between 2 and 3K.

As soon as you turn that key, and start flogging that angry Italian, all costs are justified, then quickly forgotten.

With that said, 7500RPMs is intoxicating.

True dat.

There is a little local indy about 2 hours from me who can do the timing belts on a 355 without pulling the engine. Quoted me just over $2k for the 30k mile service. Makes buying an owning a 355 almost attainable!

No....Most Motor Oil in Ferrari Shell Ultra Helix 5W-40 or 0W-40 (10W-60 for Hot Climates such as here in Sarasota, FL) My neighbor runs that in his 99 F355. Others use different brands. Figure say 17 Quarts of oil in the Testarosssa/F512tr/M will hold overall.
